A couple of things to consider, these cars don't tend to have much in the way of sound insulation on the underbonnet or firewall/bulkhead, and now no big air filter covering the engine like the earlier BBY/BBZ etc engines, or a cast aluminium sump - also these engines do tend to be a bit rough/noisy which might be the price you pay for having a reliable engine!

For what it might be worth, I drive daughter's 59 plate Ibiza SC 1.4 85PS with 35+K miles quite a lot and it is rough/noisy when compared with driving my wife's 52 plate Polo SE 1.4 75PS with 104+K miles under its belt, but as the Ibiza is a lot lighter and the newer engine 10PS more powerful, it flies when compared with the 52 plate Polo SE.

Sounds ok to me. To both of our 1.4 BXW Ibizas I fitted the underbonnet insulation from the diesel models. I did it originally because the steam that rose off a wet bonnet after a run was annoying.

The injectors in the 1.4 16V engines can be quite ticky, maybe this is what you're hearing? Otherwise, if it's just after a cold start, the tappets may be still drained of oil, in which case it should quieten down after a short while?

My older 2006 BKY engine - basically the same - has been quite spitty / ticky since I got it. I'm pretty sure it's the injectors and it's quite normal.

Hum, I did that on the first Fiesta I bought for wife that did not have it fitted, probably just because I could, I also fitted the lesser model's side rubber strips to protect it.

Back on topic:- to the OP, maybe post another video as I could not make out any unusual sounds that obviously you can hear when in the car.

That video is mine. And it still makes the ticking sound. Guess the injectors are noisy, because it does it all the time, cold or hot. I fited the underbonnet insulation and it is no better.

Wow - that Polo must be a slug. Most people think the Ibiza 1.4 is terribly slow.

I don't drive ours much but it has noticeably freed up at around 8000 miles and doesn't feel quite so gutless anymore, although the new 1.0 triple in the MY16 cars murders it around town.

Past tense, yes, that Polo was not too pleasant to drive, for my wife, coming from a Fiesta 1.6SI with the Zetec engine in it to this Polo back in late 2002 was a bit of a shock! (maybe a slight error on my part thinking that a modern 1.4 16V with only 75PS must have bags of torque everywhere - wrong!!)

That has now been solved though as her Polo got chopped in for a new Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL last August, now all is well!
