would the little pipe from the air intake cause a boost leak?

sorry chaps didnt take any pics doh!!

2003 Cupra

Everything standard bar a miltek cat back.

Under the bonnet today just having a ganders making sure everything is ok etc, took the plastic engine cover off and just checking all pipes are ok and not perished etc and was thinking about doing that bypass mod so just having a look to see if A) its not already been done and B) what the access is like etc.

anyhow after looking around I noticed there was a pipe hanging off

if you follow the induction pipe from the standard airbox theres a little hose that comes off this intake pipe like a breather and goes to a metal pipe join over the engine then it goes down in to what looks like a little valve or small filter.

this pipe was disconnected from the metal rail to the airbox side. would this cause any running or boost probs?

car runs well enough no engine lights on etc but has got a slightly jerky low rev take off in 1st and 2nd on the odd occasion.

thanks in advance

Nick

its very hard to understand where your going with this lol basically do you have any open pipework that connects to the turbo intake pipe ( the plastic pipe that connects to maf and turbo) if you do then this will cause running issues as un-metered air is entering the engine. as far as im aware ther should be no loose ended pipes. do you have the smaller pipe that connects to the side of the standard airbox? (the breather pipe) if however this has disconnected which does and can happen you wont have any running issues but this would mean crap can get into this pipe and also there should be a hole in the airbox above the filterline which is not good either.

but as for your jerky low rev running issue the n249 bypass may solve this or it may not.
the n75 may be on its way out and is not responding properly at the low revs as since doing my bypass i have the same problem but a fraction worse than befor.

if you could get a picture that would be grand as im sure your aware there is lots of pipes in the enginebay around that area.

Thanks for the reply chap.

Quick search and found this picture on this website but won't let me paste the link as not reached 15 posts aghhhh

The first pic that chap has yellow tape around one of the hoses look under that pipe with the yellow tape and you will see a smaller bore pipe with metal clip that attaches to the metal pipe this is exactly where mine was disconnected for some reason either forgot to be put back on when it had a clutch last year by garage or for some other reason the previous owner disconnected it although not sure why

I've not test driven it yet since I've reattached it but was just wondering what that pipe does.

From the left side it goes down into some valve or filter and to the right it goes to the big intake air pipe thats fitted to the airbox to turbo inlet.

im not sure myself what thats for but seems to me like it should be connected. if its connecting to the air intake system then its a form of breather in the engine. so it may have caused minor running issues. mainly a rough idle. when my dump valve blew out the intake pipe i could hear more whooosh and when it started up it was rough idling.

cheers chaps.

can confirm the low rev jerking has now been eliminated so I guess that pipe was causing it.

probably just a genuine oversight by whoever replaced the clutch and forgot to re-attach that pipe.

happy days :)
