Would you buy a car with the EML on?

Looking at a car with a intermittent EML light problem undiagnosed - would you touch it?

Only if i new what the fault was.
Plug it in, could be anything, i see it as a way of knocking the seller down.

Yes I would. I would use it as a tool to drive the price down after I plugged my VCDS in whilst on a test drive (out of sight of the seller) and found out what the fault was.



Do some reading up on VCDS or VAG-COM (same thing)

Would I get codes back or something I would understand?

Edit: checked it out and looks awesome but also expensive, and it would be difficult to diagnose without the seller being there

Yes, the official VCDS is very expensive but you can get a rip off copy for about £30.

As long as you keep the internet off whilst using it, it's exactly the same.

Do not buy it, if you do not no the fault. As much as you want to, do not go there. It could be an absolute money pit.

I'd only buy like above said I'd read the code. It might be something simple then I'd drive the price down. If he isn't willing to let you plug it in walk away or if you haven't got the facility to plug in walk away

Sounds dodgy if its intermittent,

I bought mine with the EML on, was told it was decat.
Drove it for a while and didn't bother checking it.
Finally got it on a cheapy scanner and indeed was the decat - it was reset and i've ordered an 02 sensor spacer.
Should be end of it..

But the thing with an engine light - it could be more then just one issue!!

Is it cheap enough to gamble and do you have the experience to repair If needed.

Exactly it!

If you know what the problem is and it's a quick fix keep it shut and haggle of your not sure or it could be a number of things knock the price to allow for these things if not walk!
