Hi folks,my climate control has started ticking like a clock from the dash when i turn the ignition on,i've done a search and there is a thread for another model which describes pressing some buttons on the unit to reset it and get rid of the ticking, does anyone know how to do this on a mk 1 cupra and if it will fix the problem:confused:

Mine's in the garage getting the flap motor changed for same problem.

Have you tried pressing the recirc button / turning climate control off?
Presing the recirc button on (or turning cc off) the noise went away for me. The motor that had gone turns the recirc flap up and down and this wasn't working; the ticking was it attempting to open the flap.

Wasn't aware of any reset option. May be try that first as the flap motor is 3 hours labour at a dealer (and was quoted 2-3 times that from a specialist). Diagnosis was 1/2 hour labour at dealer. I was bit gutted with the outlay (obviously!) but not fixing it could damage some other part of the heating system (so I was told, I'm no expert!)

Octavias have exactly this same problem, and Skoda have issued a technical service bulletin about this. This was issued 20 November 2007. The noise originates from the servomotor of the temperature flap V158 (left) and V159 (right) of the Climatronic system, and involves replacing the servomotors. Replacement (modified) servomotors are identified by a star symbol on the servomotor housing, although part numbers remain the same. It does state in the TSB that ON NO ACCOUNT must the dealer replace the whole climatronic control unit to cure the noises.

It could also possibly be sorted out by a dealer software update. Number of TSB is 4.6-502.1 issued 21.03.2007, and states that "the disturbing ticking and clicking noise can be eliminated by the mere modification of thecontrol unit parameters in the Guided Functions of VAS 5051/52

Sorry for the technical stuff here, just pointing out what's on the information sheets I have from Skoda.

My Octavia has been clicking away quite happily for 18 months, I've just not bothered getting it sorted out, and it's neither come to any harm, nor got any worse. Skoda dealer says if I can live with it, leave it alone.

Hi mine does this also. Also makes sporadic motor noises even when turned off? Is this normal anyone?

Check for any codes stored via the control unit trick but nothing stored.

Anyone have any common remedy for it? Or is it supposed to do it?

Cheers

The Climatronic on my Octavia used to click merrily away, but no faults stored on VAGCOM.

Skoda told me there was a software update that could be done, ie the climatronic ecu could be reflashed, but I never got round to getting the car in for this.

However, if you plug VAGCOM in, and open the climatronic controller, there is a setting somewhere in there (I think it may be in the drop down menu) for the flap motor relearning/repositioning. I did this on the Octavia and have had an almost silent climate control ever since.

I haven't got access to the car at the minute, but will have a look when I can. Sorry it will be on the Octavia, as my Leon only has standard air con.

Hope this helps
