Does anyone know what the limits are on the standard internals on these engines? Lots of info one the BAM,AMK,AUQ been rated to 340bhp but nothing on the 150 (BJX). APR claim there Stage 3+ kit is fine on standard internals but no sure if they are talking about the 225 engines.

Yeah ive also got the BJX Engine in mine too, I can never find parts relating BJX is there another engine code that is associated to it?

BJX engine shares the internals with other 150-190bhp 1.8T engines.

The crankshaft and pistons won´t be a problem.
The connecting rods are.

It isn´t the power killing these rods, torque is.

With smooth torque curve they can take around 250lb/ft (350Nm) without any problems, but there has been cases where the rods have been bent or even completely blown (<- equals a new engine) with just over 220lb/ft (300Nm) of torque. This usually happens with small turbos which are spooling up very fast and reaching their limits (i.e K03 & K04).

If you want more power and torque safely, get the rods changed.
It is cheaper to get the rods done than getting a new engine (well atleast usually) :)

If you still plan to push it without changing the rods, take a look at these pictures.
These were the STRONGER (20mm) rods used in 1.8T BAM (225bhp) engine.
This happened with around 300lb/ft of torque, which is usually considered safe for the stronger 20mm rods.

nice lol! the 1.8 t has semi forge pistons but yes the rod are weak and the exhaust cam is weak not to worry tho think you can get some forge rods for around £500 bit less may be, would be good idear the get a arp bolts then your safe ish, wen you start goin into bigs ish power you will get a grater risk off something major brakeing wach for the oil pick up line it dose get bloked i no a few who have had this problam but sorted it be for major failure. look on youtube theres a guy who builds the 1.8 turbo engine with all forge internals may help you.

Thanks guys :)

Saw that conrod that went in the guys build thread. Are conrods not more prone in going on K03 hybrids due to so much low down torque and the way it is delivered? Where as a GT2860RS is more top end.

So what do people think, just conrods to get done for internals.

P.S. Its the APR stage3+ kit i am getting. I know some people have ran this on standard but thats in Golf 1.8T (AUQ,AUM)

i'd have a chat with someone who knows the 1.8 like the back of their hands, so maybe have a chat with Bager 5, Jabba or JBS who have all been doing big turbo conversions forlonger than most us have had hot dinners, They'll know what you need to change. But i would'nt skimp, if you want the big BHp you need to spend the money on protecting th engine too, no point being the fastest for 10 minutes.

well, there appears to be lots of FR's/cupras running in excess of 265lb/ft of torque. it appears that some run up to 300lb/ft but are advised there running a risk with the rods.

Well I am over the 300lbs torque with my Stage 2 petrol FR. Was hoping there might be more info about BHP limits.

I don't supose you know about how much more HP can be made out of the standard engine internals before changing the rods?.

I know the turbo is basically maxed out while still being safe but surely there has to be a few other mods to raise the HP?

I was gonna give the 3 inch tip a go but wait on dimensions for some silicone parts.
