New Freetrack owner - need help with Vibration problem

Hi Guys and Girls,

I'm a new Freetrack owner - previously had a 2.0 TDi Altea Stylance but 2 kids and 2 dogs meant more space required!

I've had a few minor issues in the first couple of weeks - (Altitude sensor failed putting it in limp home mode day i picked it up but garage was very good and sorted that in a matter of days. Also DPF light on once but put that down to it sitting on forecourt for a number of weeks and short test drives - no problem since "touch wood")

My main concern is vibration i am experiencing when i accelerate in 5th or 6th. When you put your foot down at around 2000-2500 revs it feels very sluggish (i could be imagining it but my old 140bhp one felt more lively) and there is a lot of vibration in the steering wheel and interior mirror. Also a low droning noise! Anyone with any idea's or advice.

Its a "58" plate with about 25k miles - diesel.

I Love the car already but just want to iron out a few niggles so any help advice would be much appreciated. :)

Hi there,

I'd put money on it that it's the coupling between your propshaft and Haldex unit. I had exactly the same droning noise and vibration in the same gears and rev range.

The coupling is designed to move to stop vibrations, but mine was stuck solid. Replacing it fixed the problem and made the car much nicer to drive.

My local SEAT garage quoted £501 to fix but instead I sourced the part for around £210 and fitted with some assistance from a friend.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that - hopefully the Warranty will cover that? Was it a matter of hours or matter of days job?

If you're still within the warranty period then great. Mine was out by 1 month and they wouldn't do anything for me.

My friend sorted it in 1 hour, but the car was jacked up. If the car was on a lift and the tools were to hand then you're looking at 45 minutes tops. So basically, Jennings SEAT were trying to charge £300 labour for that amount of work. Shocking!

Good luck!

Hi sxtrail,

Thanks v much for you posts - great help - will be calling the dealer later in the week to try and book it in. Can't believe they tried to charge you that though! daylight robbery!!

Fingers crossed will be smoothly motoring in the not too distant future - can't wait to give her a proper run out.

Vibration probs

Hi sxtrail.
I've got a similar vibration on my 2008 car with 42K miles.
Can you tell me if its possible to see if the coupling can be proven to be defective without taking it off, also where abouts on the drive train is the coupling. Thanks

Update on my problem above - Car has been back to the dealer and after a day and a half with them i'm told nothing wrong with the car, just the front wheels needed balancing which they have kindley done for me. Drove the car home and surprise surprise no different!!!
I did mention the suggested problem about the prop shaft coupling but they weren't interested and didn't even look at it!!

Car goes back in next week to have the vibration looked at again. This time when i spoke to them they were much more helpful (obviously caught them on a bad day last time!) Fingers crossed they will get to the bottom of it.
