tdi engine mounts

I've now joined the ranks of those who've broken one. Has anyone actually fitted the vibratechnics mounts to a tdi, not the dogbone the other two? OEM mounts seem a tad pricey and I don't want to keep forking out.

Fitted these yesterday, very good so far. Massive vibration at first quickly settled down after 15 miles, they do however transmit more sound but its perfectly bearable.

If you don't mind me asking where did you get these from? As they seem a bit pricey.

Also how much of a job is it changing them as I can barely get a hand in the engine bay, so imagine it'll mean removing half of it just to fit them.

Cheers

It's a lot easier than it looks.

Support engine/box
Remove battery and battery tray and the gearbox side becomes obvious, New mount attaches slightly differently to the OEM though.
Drivers side, undo and position header tank out of the way and again it becomes obvious, undo aluminium bit from engine to the mount for access.

I cant stress enough how easy it actually is.

They're a good buy. I was never going to just keep braking standards, after a good few miles now vibration although increased is perfectly acceptable to me, bit harsh on first cold start but soon improves. Gear box feels very good, power delivery is smoother and the car feels much much more solid. Vibratechnics are doing some diesel tuning this year so I dare say a diesel specific item may not be far away. I bought now as the gearbox mount was utterly dead! I also have the superpro diesel dogbone bush, any increased vibration I get could be my smf, its all about personal tolerance.

Just wanted to check something with you razzario. Fitting the gearbox mount is giving me a bit of hassle so wanted to double check.

The old one sleeved over the chassis and had captive nuts on the other side. The new one I'm going to have to go buy some nuts to put the other side of the chassis, was yours the same?. Also did yours have the spacer on only one of the side bolts? As that is making mine difficult to line up.

Yes this worried me at first but it bolts straight up, the chassis leg is at an angle here so the spacer levels it out. Took a bit of wiggling to line the mount to the box though but it all went in in the end don't forget longer bolt through the spacer.

Mine came with bolts and washers but no nuts. Went for nylocs and used loctite at the box side.

Yea same I've just sent vibra technics an email to see what they recommended. Should have checked the thing first before starting. You put glue between the chassis and mount or bolt and mount?

Used no glue mate, just loctite in places

I've noticed my engine moves, the VIN plate or chassis plate on the drivers chassis leg has been worn a little by a pulley (I've had to flatten it back down a couple of times) as well as the boost pipe popping off next to it too. I suspected it could be engine mounts as sometimes the gears are (once in a blue moon) a little clunky. When I've tried rocking the engine about it doesn't appear to move though, I've had it on other engines (Polo G40, multiple mk2 golf GTI's, etc) but they were easily identifiable by grabbing the engine and rocking it = movement. Perhaps this engine's just too heavy?

Anyway, are these the usual symptoms of knackered mounts? Or should I be looking for something else? How much does it cost for the mounts (in total for the lot). It's a std 54 plate Cupra 160

Cheers.
