gunk

Hi All, Checked my oil today & was somewhere between min & full so went to top it up. When I removed the filler cap it was full of light brown gunk !!! Any idea what it is or why it's there ? I'm worried something is seriously wrong !!! Had a 2 year service back in Nov 09 & the car has done...

I was searching around today and came across this http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107478 its gunk coming out of a catch can , look at the video in post number 8 and also the jam jar afterwards , yucky stuff !.

went out to check fluid levels earlier and i came across this gunky stuff in the header tank i've checked the oil cap and there's no sign of 'mayo', the gunk doesn't feel greasy or oily and there's no excess water from the exhaust, no overheating at all and a constant temp of around 90...

one of my pipes fell off so i was about to put a new hose on, when for some reason i decided to look in the oil cap, its got this random creamy white **** on it. can anyone tell me what this is and what it mean please 1.4 8v. drive about 40 miles a day every day but dont really rag it about tbh

well i had a collapsed hose (the shape of a mushroom with 3 entries) in my engine bay on the right hand side, the breather valve parts. iv got a new one and put it in, doing so i ended up tearing another hose that its connected to, to reveal white gunk sitting inside, and the smell of petrol...

hi cleaned all breather pipes on 2.0 8v today and found that they were full of black and yellow gunk especi ally the one coming off the block would the yellow gunk mean head gasket thanks

I found some gunk (white ish) on my dipstick last weekend- mainly near the top. Have checked it every day since- no gunk (non on the oil cap either). Is this due to the really cold weather or do I have a possible head gasket problem. PS managed to do the fabia wiper conversion yesterday- well...

need help iv serviced my car and put a bottle of engine flush through her and the gunk went but now its cum back . how can i get rid of it

Hi all I've got a 2002 1.6 16v with 40,000 on the clock. I opened the engine oil filler cap last week and was shocked to see a yellow gunk and water droplets on the underside and on the filler lip. :( Car was last serviced in December, so pretty confident it wasn't there before then...

Anyone know what this suggest? I have white gunk on my oil cap The only thing that comes to mind is a dodgy thermostat cause the car never reaches temperature anymore only gets to a 1/4 on the guage when it use to be 1/2. Could this be causing the oil not to reach temperature causing the gunk?

Looked in the header tank today and noticed what can only be described as a nice scum line around the water line, the tank is also stained brown. Oil cap is fine so im putting it down to all the nasty chemical crap in the antifreeze, is this scum anything to be worried about? :confused...
