Hi All

My car has developed a rather alarming engine noise. I am not going to be able to get it to the garage until next week but i am abit worried to say the least. Car will be parked up until i can get it looked at the noise is coming from around the left hand side of the engine. Anyone got any ideas or heard this noise before. Its a 2018 Cupra 300 with 40k on the clock.

That's where your timing chain is.
EA888 can be susceptible to timing chain/tensioner issues.

Similar happened on my 280, but at around 80-90k. Chain timing was out slightly. Needed a new chain.

I wouldn’t be running the engine at all myself with an oil pressure light on until you’ve had it looked at. Is the oil level ok on the dipstick?

Yeah the car is parked up at the moment have to use another car for the time being. Unfortunately the place ive got it booked into cant look at it for a few weeks so its got a few weeks to sit yet. The oil level is spot on and the oil is clean and the engine temp seems ok. Whole car sounds ok until it hits 2k revs then that rattle starts.

Currently in the garage Andy2max it seems to be the timing chain rattling it has not skipped time thankfully. Its getting the timing chain and guides replaced this week and serviced so hopefully that will be it. Its only got 40k on it but it is what it is i guess.

I thought the timing chain issues had been sorted with the gen 3 2.0 TSI, maybe you’ve just been unlucky. Fingers crossed that fixes your issue though
