ENGINE AND CLUTCH NOISE

Hi everyone I just wondered what everyones thoughts were on some noises I am getting. Just recently when I start car whether cold or hot the engine shakes violently and with extreme noise. Tick over and running after that is absolutely fine no further noise. What could this be ? Also I have noticed when a start to engage the clutch there is a note change in the engine as you push through to fully engage the clutch the noise goes away and then back as your foot comes back up again. I have noticed also when maneuvering using just the clutch and no accelerator the engine seems to be noisier again. Engine performance is unchanged, mpg has been great. Gear change perfectly fine apart from the 1st to 2nd normal cold gear clunky from the 6 speed box which I understand to be normal. I have recently put some different oil on top up and de activated the 1st gear torque controller through carista app as car was bogging down in first. Could these changes have some bearing? I am just worried it could be the fly wheel.

Thank you everyone for all your help with this

Do you have any fault codes?
Does sound like it could be your DMF/Clutch - can you try to pinpoint the source of the noise? Your DMF & clutch are on the passenger side of your engine.

Does this seem like your problem?

Hi mate hope your well. Thank you so much for the reply I was hoping it would be you lol. Yes reading the link mate with violent vibrations of my engine on start up it sounds like mine for sure. The engine sounds normal on the outside and like I say you can hear a notable sound difference as you start to engage the clutch, then it goes and comes back as you release the clutch back up.

What would you recommend for a dmf and clutch mate? Do you have the part numbers or chance. I dont want to having to get genuine parts if I can help it with price so if there are any recommendations at your end mate?

If its not the dmf what do else do you think it could be?

Thanks again mate

These are expensive parts mate; - I would get a second opinion from a reputable VAG specialist.
Personally if I was doing my DMF & clutch I would get LUK parts if I couldn't find the OE parts for a good price.

Your OEM numbers:
DMF part number is : 03L105266DJ flywheel 240MM LUK 6-speed man gearbox
List price is £850!

Clutch plate and pressure plate is 03L141018 LUK 240MM
List price £327

While you're in there you would also change your hydraulic clutch release bearing - 0A5141671S list price £62

Did you end up re-mapping your car? DMF springs are tuned for a certain torque (The 150 & 184 have different DMF's) - if you go outside this you will shorten their life.

Hi mate thanks so much for the reply and sorry for the lateness on mine. Yes I had mine revamped but through a tuning box. I always thought putting your foot down in higher gears like 5th and 6th at low revs was what put the most pressure on the fly wheel ? To be fare my car has done 92k so not done too bad on the original clutch and fly wheel if it's that which has gone.

What else do you think it could possibly be mate if not the clutch or flywheel?

Is the lux dmf part number listed the one I need to go for? Or is that the oem part number?

Thanks again mate cant thank you enough for all your help over the years

Do you think also mate as it's never been changed I should get the gearbox oil changed first to see if it makes any difference to the chatter as such. As its never been done and I am on 92k and even if I need the rest doing it wouldnt be a waste would it? Cheers mate

I gave you the OEM numbers from the Seat catalogue. Seat mentions LUK in their catalogue.
You should be able to search by these in the LUK catalogue to find the LUK aftermarket part numbers.
Search/research for both - to find your best price.

There are other things which can cause your engine to shake - as mentioned, suggest you find a VAG specialist to diagnose 100% before buying expensive parts.

I can't see the gearbox oil 'fixing' an extreme engine shake, but at 92k - I would be changing it. It helped improve my shift quality and feint gear rattle.,

I think personally I would probably remove the tuning box - just to ensure it's not doing something weird with the cold start/running.

Hi mate thanks again. I have someone looking at the car on Saturday to see what the issue could be before any extreme expense. Sorry to ask what would be your recommendation for gear box oil and how much is needed ? Are there any other parts that would be a good idea to change whilst the flywheel and clutch are out if it is indeed that. Thanks mate

Have a look here:

If you are doing a clutch, also change your clutch slave cylinder.
Check engine and gearbox mounts, while your under there.

Thanks mate do you happen to know the part number for the slave cylinder. When ordering the Clutch bearing some sites call it a concentric slave cylinder is that right? Cheers again mate
