Tyre Pressure Monitor light stuck on

As i was driving on very wet roads i accidentally knocked the key with my knee and switched the engine off. I realised why the car died and just turned the key back on while i was still rolling and off I went again. However the TPM light stayed on. I pulled over stopped the engine but it was still on when i restarted. Having checked the tyres visually and by touch I then tried resetting it by pressing my button. When i press the button the light blinks off but comes back on and does not give the audible noise of setting.

I haven't been able to actually check the pressures but surely even if they are wrong I should be able to clear the warning by resetting it? The manual suggests that a flashing light indicates a fault but it constantly on.

I will try checking with an airline then resetting but I really don't think that will solve it.

The fact I turned the key off makes me think it might be an electrical fault now, should I mention this to the dealer or will it then be my fault?

Couldn't find posts that helped but will keep searching.

Cheers

nah, just say its come on and wont turn off.

If you hold it down for a couple of seconds it should just reset and stay off, so there must be something up with yours.

Cheers Dan.. i was just reading one of the posts you were involved with where 3 of the lights stayed on.

I'll phone dealers see what they say and also see if checking pressures make a difference.

I don't have my manual with me but I presume the car must be moving while you set the pressures since it measures rotation. But i'm sure it lets you set them while stationary.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Update
Ok spoke to dealer service, explained I hadn't adjusted the pressures yet and he instantly said that you must adjust the pressures before you can reset it as the pressure sensors know that it is below what is specified. I asked if it was not rotational sensors and he said that it also has pressure sensors and if I adjust the pressures then reset it I will hopefully be ok. I'll post again after lunchtime with the results.

Update
Checked pressures with compressor and they seemed reasonable certainly nothing that should trigger the warning.
I'll check again tonight with a digital gauge and may let some air out and re-inflate and have a look for any damage etc

Ok I know this is ancient but I have only just got round to a visit to the dealers with this problem.

Outcome was that when they checked the car the fault would not reset due to a nail in the tyre. I was unconvinced as going by the way the sensors work I believe that theoretically you should be able to set the pressures even if you didn't have wheels fitted to the car.

So I got the tyre repaired (and was made aware of having the 50p wear problem on the rear) and when the car was tested again the light would still not reset. Thank god because i had just spent 10 minutes politely disagreeing with their logic about how the sensors work.

It was only in for them to look at, rather than repair, because it was a Saturday so now that it needs further investigating I will book it in to get repaired and see what happens next.

Out of interest, what make of tyres are you having the 50p wear problem with?

Just that I know this is common problem with Celica owners on the P-Zero's which I have on my Cupra. Not heard of any issues of this type on the Leon though.

phil3012 - I need to do some research because the tyres I thought were the original dunlops... but that seems hard to believe as if that is the case they have lasted 34k, I have a read a few posts about the mk2 leons having problems like this with Dunlops and Bridgestones. I will find out exactly what's on there and let you know.

pr0ton - Yeh I already knew that when he told me, thankfully this time I was speaking to a guy who knew more than that but maybe just not the whole concept of the the Indirect monitoring and the fact that it doesn't monitor pressure in a manner that allows it to do so while the vehicle is parked.

Brill that's the post i was meaning earlier.. saved me a hunt ;)

I forgot to add to this to say my sensor was fixed. The second time I went they fixed it in no time. When I asked how they did it they said it just needed to be reset.. although the last time it was in the guy took me through the back to see it being reset but coming straight back on again. They never like to tell you what they have done. Mind you working on computers i'm much the same.. details details :) Would be good to know for future in case it happens again though. Apparently the warning had been on for about 15k or something, it was strange having no warning on the dash.

Where is the sensor.. did you just jetwash around the brakes?
Mine has since come on twice at exactly the same point in the road but when I check the pressures both times i have been down by about 5psi.
