I think they were fitted the wrong way (i.e. on wrong side, the spiral should be near the handbrake pivot).

Yep these part numbers matched, TPS in plymouth didnt have them in stock but are getting them in so will take 2 days max for me

Yes they will have a hook so when tensioned they can't fall out
