Hi all,

Picked up my Cupra 280 (DSG) at the weekend and couldn't be happier!

One thing that I have noticed is that I can hear a slight beeping/whistling noise when i'm accelerating but not planting it. I'm assuming it's the turbo as it's mounted at the back of the engine but somebody mentioned today that there have been issues with the turbo's on these engines and a possible recall etc? I posted on the thread about it, am awaiting response.

Uploaded a video, which may help although the noise is very quiet... I can hear it between 23-32mph... just looking for some piece of mind, has anyone else come across this noise, is it normal?

Video link: vid.me/qhAu

Cheers

Read your own post it mentions recall on the third line.

This very slight whistling sound is normal for the Cupra / Golf7R and Audi S3.
It is caused by resonance near the catalic converter in the downpipe.
Nothing to worry!
People who have fitted a big downpipe with 200 cell catalic converter do not have it.

Would be an unbelievable coincedence though.
Just enjoy your Cupra, I enjoy it every day I drive it.
Last weekend we were with a bunch of Cupra and other Seat drivers from the Dutch Seat forum at the Nurburgring and we had a incredible good sunday.
We try to arrange that 3 times a year. We met Dave Lomas last sunday.
So anyone that is interested in the next meeting in spring just send a PM!

Is this genuinely what this is? This has been driving me crazy! Had my car 6 weeks and does this under light throttle. Sounds like a washer spinning on a bolt, thats the best way I could desrcribe it. However, ive always known it wasnt a mechanical defect as the car goes so well, unbelievable straight line speed :)

There wasn't an official recall but Audi did change the turbos in the S3 as earlier models were going wrong with the turbos going bang. There was a member in a Cupra on here who had the problem when his car began to bellow out smoke from the pipes and it was confirmed to be the turbo. (I'll see if I can find the thread)

you know what, i was thinking about this. I am one of the fabled turbos, ive been stage 2, ive been a test mule, ive been into limp more like 20 times during the prototype stage and im still here, alive and kicking 30k miles later!

So i was wondering, and i wouldnt put it past them, but the blown turbo thing came from Apr, the Audi notice, came from Apr and most of the blown turbos, were Apr, so what if its all a convenient excuse...
