1.4tdi 59kw, engine fault and potential tuning (long story)

I will try to make it as simple as possible...

It's 1.4tdi 59kw/80hp

Bought it 5 years ago it had 158k km, 10 months ago engine died on me at 217k km.

To make this part simple, it wasn't the engine that died, oil pump chain snapped, oil pump stopped working which led into oil not flowing... rookie mistakes I left the car running idle for a few mins (trying to figure out why my oil light came on) and well yeah.. that's the end of it.

Car got rebuild, something what I totally don't recommend since it was ~4k euros and the car is worth 2.5-3k euros - but that's irrelevant. Crankshaft got damaged along with all the "minor" stuff that needed to be replaced, pistons were fine, engine head was fine etc.. but overall time required for the job, price etc... never again.

Anyway, getting to the important point - I've made 13k km already since the rebuild, the only issue I have right now is that car is lacking power, it's not something that can be easily noticed, but driving it as long as I did, and the way I did.. I can see the difference even if it's minor. Another issue, which was caused by mechanic (but ofc it's not his fault.. and how it usually goes) - sometimes when I release the clutch (only when the car is idle) I can hear pretty big rattle sound, and apparently gearbox needs a rebuild which is around 500€.

Also, I want to put car on stage1 which should result in 105-110hp instead of 80 which it's got now.

So, something that I need an opinion on - do I go for the stage1 (after I fix the gearbox) and would that even be reliable considering the situation that the car was in?

I'm willing to invest some money in the car to be some sort of a low key sleeper (when it comes to small daily commuter cars at least), and there's not really a lot required for the car to be the way I want it to be... but at the same time, I'm not sure for how long this rebuilt engine could last (under the assumption that I would be running it on stage1/110hp)

Buying other cars (in general any brands) is pretty much out of question, the market is as broken as it can be right now and I can either looking for something pretty much identical to what I have now or pay like 3x the actual value of the car which I'm searching for (to give an example, e46 coupe - there're maybe 3, 4 of them on the market.. 318ci 8k euros 270k km, average looking at best.. - and it's not like I'm looking for 318ci, I'd prefer a diesel.. but you just can't find those on sale.. 118d was 3k euros last year, nowadays they're like 5k... )
