1.8t Cupra hard start and cutting off while driving

Hi Guys. New to the forum

So recently I’ve been having a problem with my 1.8T. The car backfires on first attempt to start and then on second attempt starts up fine. Then while driving it cuts off completely(EPC light also ON). Any Suggestions?

Hi mate are you able to get the car scanned to get a clue to what the issue is? Otherwise you’re just changing expensive parts for nothing. I know that a bad maf will set the epic light off and cut out the engine while running. My car used to bang between gear changes too.

Hi I managed to get it sorted out. Turns out it was a timing problem. After the rebuild the guys didn’t set it right. At the moment having an issue with the car smoking when warm after a long drive. Definitely burning oil, hoping it’s not rings due to it being rebuilt recently
