Hi - as I posted elsewhere (see; https://www.seatcupra.net/forums/threads/sporty-summer-tyre-recommendations.475468/ ), I'm looking for some better tyres to replace the rather mediocre stock 215/45 R17 91W Nexen Blue HD Plus tyres on my 2021 Ibiza FR, have mainly been considering either the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 6 or the Michelin Pilot Sport 5s. I've gone through what seem to be the main pros and cons of the two tyres in my linked post.

I noticed, though, that the Goodyear AS6s come in two different versions - the 87Y and the 91Y (the PS5s I've seen all seem to be 91Y). I'm aware that a 91Y tyre can bear more weight than the 87Y, but is that really necessary for an Ibiza FR, which isn't a heavy car, especially as by far the majority of the time it's going to be just me (70Kg) in the car and will only very rarely need to carry heavy loads?

Are there any pros/cons in going for 87Y tyres vs 91Y? Would go to 87Y tyres affect my warranty at all (which was extended to March 2026, as purchased secondhand from a SEAT main dealer)? Thanks.

I always go for tyres of the same spec (width, aspect ratio, speed and load rating), but not same brand to those originally fitted when the car was built.

I have Michelin PS4 on my VW Polo GTI+ and IMHO they’re so much better than the Bridgestone Turanzas that VW fitted when the car was new.

Higher the load/speed rating stronger the sidewalls, of which produce more feel, less sidewall lateral movement & less edge wear if your on track days, but does cause more noise and a firmer ride.

Goodyears have stronger walls than Michelin's. Bridgestone have firmer walls than Goodyear.

Depends what you prefer, for me I'd pick the Bridgestone Potenza Sport, but I prefer feel with no lateral movement, but the Goodyear will also be a great tyre. Michelin are overpriced for what they offer and when you read many reviews Michelin send their Sport tyre (PS5) and Bridgestone send the Truanza their touring tyre of which equals and betters the PS5 in many tests, they have no need to even send the Potenza Sport, but that is not to say the PS5 is a bad tyre, but if your a Michelin fan really do consider the Maxxis VS5..

Sounds like the Goodyear AS6 (91Y version?) should work for me. Will happily take better handling even if it means a little harsher ride.
