A Different Air Filter Debate (LCR/LC)...

Hi all! Not your usual panel filter vs open cone here, I want to compare two kinds of open-cone.

Story short, logs back in August revealed that my MAF was under-reading and I suspect one of two reasons...dodgy MAF and restrictive open cone. I use a Neuspeed filter and from day one it's never impressed me, I think it's under sized and therefore quite restrictive. Once this is replaced, I can determine defintely what the problem is (and probs replace MAF for good measure).

So i'm getting rid for a larger cone or a slightly smaller twin-cone. Which would be best?

JETEX 08001: http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/conicalfilters.php?insided=80mm

Green Powerflow: http://www.green-filter.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=622_762_763&products_id=100360

Reading Demon-Tweeks (although they only do 85mm neck), a 200mm twin-cone filter is rated to 301bhp where as the JETEX is 400bhp. Now, on a stage 2 car, it's getting close to 300bhp so is buying a twin-cone pointless? I can't help thinking that the design of the twin-cone will really help as out air feeds will be blowing directlt onto the centre of it.

Any thoughts from you lot? Have you had experience of both? What are your opinions?

Thanks,

J

unless you can confirm how each manufacturer calculates their bhp claim you can only go on relative surface area between them I think.

As Bill said, how can they quantify what air flow will give a certain BHP on different applications???

I've just bought the dual cone Green. This has more surface area to suck in cold air so I'm hoping it will be good.

I've been having a chat with JETEX themselves as they too offer a twin-cone. It seems that the whole surface area thing is, as you say, the key where as a smaller twin-cone, even with it's open front, can't handle the same.

I made a huge hint for them to make a massive twin-cone though :D

By the way, the 08001 is out of stock until mid next week.

Anyone with any more infor/experience with a twin-cone?
