Additive Problem

Right,

Fill the cap, pour into the hole, nice and simple.

Now, when I get the diesel pump and push it into my filler, I can feel something there which opens, to, I guess, hold pressure in the tank etc.

Now what happens to my additive when that pressure catch is closed, does it just sit there until I open the catch with the nozzle, or does it run away through an overflow pipe etc?

I wonder how many people's additives are actually not reaching their fuel?

Is that an anti-syphoning valve in the neck of the tank? In my car i dont know if there is one but see an overflow pipe in the 'dish' where the cap is located, so can fill to the very brim!

Yes I have the pipe in the dish also, but not sure if there is one by the valve also as cant see that far down.

Mine goes down happily down the spout. Just have to push it in and pour. It trickles in and I never see any build up

Thats because its out of sight, do you not have an anti syphoning thingy?

How would something like that stop syphoning?

Surely the only anti-syphoning thing is the fact that the fuel cap is locked?

Thought did cross my mind, think it is there to hold pressure in tank.

Anti syphon is down at the bottom of the filler iirc. Shouldn't stop you pouring stuff in as its to stop stuff coming out....

That doesn't make sense, if someone would be syphoning petrol they would put a tube down.

Yes but its usually a mesh down near the bottom end of the filler pipe (at least the last couple of cars i've had.)

Oh right, still love to know whether there is an overfil pipe down there that is catching my additives, never noticed any overflow whilst filling.

It's a value used for expansion, do a search for venting

No, thats just inside the cap, I use that all the time. Im talkign about when you put the filler down, you can feel it opening something.

Can you fill the car to the very brim where you can see the diesel level to the brim?

No, dont think so.

try next time to fill to the very top, but make sure you do a few miles driving after, to get the level down, not good if it spills out of the neck onto the road! maybe there is something if you cant do that, but would you not notice diesel on the ground?
