My dealer ordered the engine cover but when it arrived it would not fit !He states that there is no engine cover actually listed as a replacement part for the 140 2.0 TDi engine.Does anyone know if this is correct or can I get one from a VW dealer and change the
badge?

Sorry, Westfaliaman,
but as almost noone over in the UK forum ever mentions his car's specifications (such as modelyear or engine id number or equipping) it's often hard to tell, if the given hints & parts will really fit and meet the needs.
The post to the partnos, my above link is referring to, is dated back to Feb '06, and the included information might even be weeks/months older.
So if you have a brand new Altea, your dealer might be right in stating, that the current model will have no replacement part for the engine cover, as it isn't produced with it any more.
But nevertheless it might be possible to retrofit an earlier generation of the cover ... and I have found another partnumber for a cover, that was used in the early modelyear 2007:
03G 103 967 F ... (
central cover)
... which comes together with another part
03G 103 907 (A) ... (
fringe / "A" depending on the engine id)
... maybe you'll need the
SEAT sign as well
5P0 103 940
... plus such a
spout
03G 103 638 A
If you'll risk a second go, ask your dealer for those parts ...
greets ... Klaus
