Android Auto performance

Hello, fellow Formentor victims!

My apologies if this is a doubled post, but I had a question targeted especially towards those who blame the performance of the infotainment system.
Yes, all of us can see that it's sluggish. Yes, all of us can see that it's lagging horribly for such an expensive car. You are not alone and it somehow brings me inner peace to see that I am not the only one seeing these (apart from my Cupra dealership who said that "never ever complained about the infotainment or OS, in general")

I am wondering what is your experience with Android Auto, so far. For me, it's almost unusable in Waze, since that is what i've been using for ages. Do you guys experience anything like this?

This is how badly it works for me, the worst being when I first start the car. I think it's safe to say that this is annoying as hell when it comes to user experience, since not even smart phones from 10 years ago were so slow

As a bit of context, my Formentor is a 2021 model, with an OS version of 1790 (it doesn't show to have pending updates). The phone used in the above video was a Samsung Galaxy A72, with Android 11, using the original cable (oh, btw, no matter how much I enabled the developer options and ticked all the wireless settings, I still can't make it work wireless). And no, this wasn't the only android phone I tried out to see.

What do you guys think? Should I press my local dealership to take it in and investigate it? Does it seem like a hardware or software issue?

Any type input is much appreciated and thank you in advance!

I regularly (but not always) get the same horrendously slow performance on Apple CarPlay. Sometimes inputs take 10 seconds or so to register… it has to be to do with the car’s software delaying the interrupts that would arise from a touch input. I imagine it gets locked up doing something else and queues the commands to be processed later.

I originally had a Pixel 2 which was supposed to work wirelessly but didn't and was generally a bit slow, I have since upgraded my phone to a Pixel 5 and whilst I wouldn't say it's 100% lag free it's quite a bit better than your clip and quite usable and when driving is pretty much faultless.

I think because there are so many variables on what phone you use in terms of RAM, chipset etc you are going to get a difference in performance.

I have the same software version as you on my car by the way.

Are you sure wireless Android Auto is enabled in Romania? I think we already had posts about it and it wasn't. The same as in Poland.

Yes, my bad. I'm an idiot for not doing my homework properly. It's not yet enabled in Romania. Thanks for pointing that out!

Works flawless meaning the wireless connection itself? Or are you talking about the performance?

no issues with either .as yet lol.... ;) i leave my hotspot on my phone constant so car picks it up straight away.
Oh, wait, I see that you have the 310hp version (VZ2) whereas I have the 150hp version. Might there be a chance that on the VZ trim there is better hardware?
