Really like the idea of being able to take any mods off before the car goes to a dealer - are there any plug and play type kits that you could recommend ?

cheers

You can get a propper remap done by reputable dealers such as CC p-torque and revo that can be use of different means, CC i believe can be turned on and off using a cruise control stalk, revo by a seperate controller that plugs into the DLC and p-torque can be added to the map and you use VAGCOM to turn on and off, all much better than the plug and play kits you see on ebay. :)

plug n play

for the remappers ,your ecu has a counter on it which records remaps etc, until recently i sold plug n play units for 6 years and i am just enquiring about a digital one for my 130tdi alhambra from a new supplier ,once i get it i will post my findings ,on a serious note remappers always comment on plug n play units being not very good but these claims are normally made on the £20 units on ebay ,to be honest what would you expect them to do?

We could offer tuning boxes if we wanted, but can a box that alters only fuelling really compete with a remap that alters boost, timing, torque limiters, smoke limiters etc etc

Also, they are not that invisible as they throw fuel pressure faults and similar. I have tuned a BMW 123D for a BMW technician who says they know when someone has used a box due to them chucking the same faults

Another point to make is that 90% of end users will tweak the box until it smokes too much or the engine starts to cut... on later DPF equipped models, the particle filter will be getting blocked up and chucking an engine light on every 5 mins

what do people think of the dtuk tuning boxes ive heard good things and there plug and play

I've had mine for just over a week now and I think it is great. It's a proper digital system so it doesn't just alter the fuelling, it's as good as a remap in my opinion. It's got 4 maps on it to choose from and the extra power is great fun! Its a good price but you can save another £60 off it with the discount code "trade" if your interested :D

I have a tuning box from tdi tuning, and all I can say is pond for pond it was worth it, cost me £80 and I can realy tell then the dif. when driving the wifes car (same engine but no box fitted) I have done around 20K using it with no problems apart from the box going faulty a couple of weeks back and they replaced it FOC, I still get approx 55mpg.
Like has been said before you get what you pay for, stay clear of the cheap ebay boxs.

To be honest i used to sell tuning units ,mainly on ebay for over 6 years ,i wish i had buyers that would have paid £360 for a digital unit(ones i sold were £259) ,i would still be selling them .For that kind of money you are better buying the new style units that are availible ,i am going to fit one to my own 130tdi alhambra, the units are a touch screen unit that plugs into the obd 2 point ,you get your standard map and custom map on the same unit and decide what you want to use,so you get the benefit of a remap that can be unplugged, another advantage is you can use the unit for your next car and only buy a remap (£150)
