I don't believe in buying warranties myself either, OK if its free. Bit like pet insurance if you can afford to cover whatever cost comes up, it's cheaper. Like Governments and Public bodies don't insurer anything since they spread the risk within the organisation. You need a big enough float to do that. Car insurance is different :). Pet warranty might be a better description 🤔.

Seat added warranty as an option into service plans a few years back. You could have the service plan with or without a warranty. Elected not to have the warranty. Vag insurance isn't a charity so they do make a profit or try to on what they sell. The service plans can be a good investment with rising prices. Offer a discount to get your money now and will charge more with inflation in the future. Warranties on the other hand are an insurance business where you decide whether you are going to cover the risk yourself. As pointed out above they have exclusions, you have to run through those and think why bother. You might want to bother if you think the risk is high and you can't afford it if it goes wrong.
