Diesel DPF Filters

Evening All,

I am looking into buying an Altea for the wife, not sure about petrol or diesel yet but heard things about VAG's and the DPF filters on diesels.

A local Audi dealer was talking about problems with the filters filling up every two weeks on short commuting journeys on a 1.9 TDI but then when speaking to a SEAT dealer salesman he said the Altea/Leon 1.9 diesels don't have DPF filters. Is that right? If they do have DPF's do they take much cleaning/replacing???

yes they can get clogged, see the regeneration link in the TDI section for more info on fixing this.

not all TDIs have the DPF filter fitted as standard. you'd need to check the spec of the car your going to buy to find out if it is fitted or not.

I don't think 1.9s have a DPF. Usually only the 170FR on Altea unless its very new.
Get a 140 and have it remapped if you want a 170 type engine.

I'm pretty sure my 1.9TDI PD doesn't have a DPF.

yep correct, no 1.9 TDIs have a DPF. only the newer 2.0L ones do, and then its only the 170 version not the early 140s.
