Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 Mk1 1.8T sport i know this was the car that cam eout before they named it the Cupra.

My question is, is there any difference between my sport and a similar year Cupra

going back to basics
Very little TBH, Sport has APP engine code and a ko3 turbo as opposed to AUQ and a ko3s turbo, no difference in power unless you tune them up then the Cupra comes out with about 20bhp more on original turbos apart from that its little cosmetic things that differ ever so slightly.
There is a few threads already about this topic.

Firstly its possible that it is a cupra but has sport on the V5 as the cupra thing was a UK rebadging exercise and it took seat a while to change things. - do you have leather seats? if so its likely a cupra.
If no leather or ESP then a sport.

Yours is a 2000 so likely has engine code APP which will remap to about 196 bhp.

In my opinion and experience earlier cupras/sports were built a little better.

however, dont be too disheartened as around 2000 the cupra was a fully speced up leon and about 18,000 quid new, (spec included, leather, ESP, auto wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, cruise, 6 ced changer, seats were electirc memory... etc etc...
shortly after 2000 they basically dropped the sport and downgraded the cupra so it didnt have all the goodies and sold them at a cheaper price. Im not sure if the facelift came in at the same time..
So your 'sport' is basically the same spec as a later cupra. well other than the engine code but not alot in that.

I think apart from the Cupra R all the leons have the same size rear discs?

I know Mintex sell it as a kit with the pads and the Mintex code is MDK0037 as I bought some for mine just before christmas.
