Drive system failure warning

1.4 EHybrid

Fuelled up at Asda, after around a 30 minutes of driving I notice the car starts spluttering and jerking when driving. Then a message flashes up “Drive system failure” and “Engine speed limited to 4000rpm”. Parked up and restarted for it do the same again 20 minutes later with a rough ride and jerking again. Seems hot near the driver wheel and loud fan noise.

Thinking it could be the fuel I topped up the remaining 2/3 of the tank with V Power when taking it out again a few hours later and no issue. Drove it hard for an hour but couldn’t get it to replicate.

Any ideas?

Returned from Holiday on Friday, Car died 2 min's away from airport at 6am had to wait ages to be recovered by AA. :( Had an error pop up before we went on holiday; Error; Gearbox, you can drive on Error; drive system, please visit workshop managed to drive to the airport and leave the car...
