Engine Internal Work

Anyone ever had any internal work done to their engine? Over the next few weeks I'm thinking of dropping the engine and having some light internal work done like balencing the top and bottom two pistons, balencing the crank etc.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for work to be carried out? I've been thinking about changing the internal oil jets for ones out of a 225 engine, but need to double check that the AQX and BAM jets do actually differ in size.

What pistons does the AQX run, does it run the same forged pistons as the TT225 engine? Also what rod's do the Ibiza's run, i've always been under the impression there stronger than certain other 1.8T engines.

Any input is much appriciated!

If your going for mega mega power do it, if your not dont bother.

If the engines fine and doesnt smoke/use water/use oil why strip it down?

If your going for an ihi conversion or similar then fair enough!

It will cost a lot of money for a good engine builder to rebuild an engine, good engine builders are out there though, dont limit yourself to just a seat/vag specialist company. There are plenty of engine builders every bit as good that could do the work you require, (ppl that build race engines etc, try www.hiflowheads.co.uk, there are lots out there)

The Standard engine and internals are good for atleast 320BHP and 7000rpm. When i went up to Jabba a while back to get my Exhaust they had one in there running 360BHP on Standard Internals.

yeah apparently some BAM engines have issues with robs and pistons.

The ibiza lump is pretty solid itself, ive seen a k04 ibiza with 100bhp nos used daily and its been fine!

Mines taken stick, track day car etc, two remaps, two turbos and its still solid as anything. > minus my problems lol!

Hi flow heads are not the sort of company i would be wanting to use, heard a lot of problems about them when i used to have a saxo. Theres plenty of good engine builders out there thougth which know the 20v lump inside and out.

If your running a 150 spec 20 valve with more than 280 horses it will go bang if you use it hard. The con rods will go....... ive seen it!

Plans are a mere 280~300bhp, not going IHI think i've decided that i'll be happy with the 280~300 mark in an FWD road car. However a few months ago I said the same about the 220bhp set up!!

Either way the engines coming out, and car's on 77947 miles at the moment, still tempted to get some new rings in there and have some balencing done.

bollox.... "it will go bang" - nonsense.

35K miles on 340+bhp track use would say to the contrary as would a lot of other +300bhp 1.8T owners around.

map it badly, detonate it, overboost it and yea... you can chuck a rod
inherantly they are veyr durable.

im run a k03 with 100bhp nos as a daily driver, the only problem i have had is a slipping clutch in 4th and 5th with the noz on, but iv been told by various tuners i just simply need a better clutch to handle it (im ok running it 50%, anything above that is clutch slippage time, internal engine bits i have been told will be fine :)

Im just going on a piston and rod that was shown me by a reputable tuner! But if its been proven they will hold up i hold my hands up lol!

Not on about doing the work for strength, a balenced engine always runs 10 times better than one that's just been thrown together. Just wondered if there was anything else to take into consideration.

Like above, the TT225 oil jets, are they bigger than the Ibiza ones?

Agree with Bill, my ihi'd Ibiza had 342bhp and had done 20k ihi'd and i would say it had a hardish life and never missed a beat
