hiya

i am on the waiting list for the new Cupra and like other potential new Cupra and FR owners I want to know some stats about them, what they look like etc.

I am sure we have all seen the supposed pics and other guesses about spec. floating around recently and since no-one really knows anything about the Cupra and FR then please add your news to this thread.

Many thanks

Seton (seadragon).

Have you asked your local dealer? Suprising how much they know.

I recently had to give up the cupR for a sooty in light of a new job, so while I was ordering my new car I enquired about the new cupra models that havent been released.

Apparently there will be no FR (I think this was just a temporary replacement name for the cupra models to promote a sale on the old models [tech specs on these are identical to the old cupra models]). There will be a cup R model and a cup diesel model as with the ibiza.

Heres the exciting bit: the cupra R is rumoured to be 4x4 with a 240ps block and the same brembos its always had. The diesel will only be fwd but its going to have a 180ps block with the smaller SEAT labelled brembo callipers, and the same body kit as the cup R i would imagine.

I don't think they will be out for a while yet so don't hold your breath. You're prob better off buying a 55 plate cupra R in the mean time and getting it remapped. You'll get around 250ps out her then.

If the cupra R looks anything like the new sport models i'd keep your money in the bank because personally they don't look as agressive as the old models at all. You're better off saving up an extra k or two and investing it in a Chavus ST or a Chavstra VXR. They might come with burberry cloth, but they have the agressive look about them.

Apparently there will be no FR .............. There will be a cup R model

:cartman:

suprising how little your dealer knows.......

no more Cupra R

FR is the 'european' name for the old Cupra

The Cupra R name makes no sense (CupRacing Racing) and has no 'historical' significance

Well I did wonder myself about what the dealer said and was a bit dubious. But having seen the spy photos of the new cupra R i have no doubts that what he said was true. Also because I know dealers pay a lot of money for their staff to go to motor shows and on courses to learn about the new models months prior to their release (they even get track days like the one I got the with cup R just so the staff have first hand experience of how they drive if asked a question), having worked for Kerridge the past 3 years and being in contact with a lot of ex-franchise workers.

Do model names have to make any sense? As long as its distinct, it sells!

what i do know is that the cupra will do 240bhp, using the golf GTI engine and so will the New FR when it comes out in aug/sep doing 200bhp with the FR diesel about 170bhp i believe.

my dealer doesnt know that much, he said it might have 19'' alloys as an optional extra. i dont think it will have the 4wd, i hear thats a myth.

the spy pics looks more like that new bodykit thats floating around, i think the cupra might look a bit more special. i have driven the vxr and while it goes like a rocket it does feel cheap inside while with the leon the interior has a more quality feel and i can make my gf happy because it has 4 doors.

i dont think we will know much more about the FR until at least june/july and much later about the cupra. i have tickets to the British motor show late this year, so maybe there will be more clues then. i have my name on the waiting list for the new cupra and while i can get the mk1 cupra r now i would rather wait, i think it will be worth it.
