Not sure what exhaust parts I need :(

The centre pipe in Margaret's 1.4 Sport is blowing quite badly and it's due an MOT in a month so I'm just getting round to replacing it. I was just going to jump onto the Bay and get one but as usual there's a blistering array of options available.

It's the model with the BBZ engine and if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Bill

Ah, it probably didn't help me getting that wrong then Badger! It's a 2006 so it must be a BXW I reckon. I should probably check!

Point is I don't know if I need a pipe or a pipe with a cat attached or what.

I think I need to get it up on ramps and have a good look before I go any further. I'm still getting to know the car. If it was a toyota I'd be fine! Lol

Thanks again though Badger, I appreciate the fact you're always willing to help out someone who's a bit unfamiliar with the car.

No issues, that's what the site is for ;)

For parts as well I would recommend running your car's plate onto either eurocarparts or carparts4less and browse what parts they have listed.

99% of the time they're right, but if they're wrong then they refund you no problems. Eurocarparts is easier as you can walk into their branch, carparts4less is delivery only.

Both of them drew a blank but after I've had a good look things will be clearer.

I might even phone Kwik Fit for a laugh and see what they quote me.

They say just because it's not online yet doesn't mean they don't have it and to give them a call, which I'll do once I've had a look and I can maybe answer their questions

I would have thought that BBZ would have been around at the same time as the lower powered BBY, which was roughly 2002 > 200?. The BXW etc are the later ones.

Now, once you have the engine code to hand, maybe have a look at:-

http://www.partscats.info/

That site should give you the correct part number.

One thing though, where exactly is it leaking, for instance, if it is leaking at/on the flexi section, you can buy a correct flexi repair section from places like www.senioraftermarket.co.uk and get that welded into place, I did that for my wife's Polo 1.4 BBY 2003MY back in 2007 as I was NOT going to pay £300+ for a new section on a car under 5 years old! It is still okay 7 years and 70,000 miles on.

Cheers Rum. From what I can see the pipe is pretty rotten so I expect the worst but hey, if it needs replaced it needs replaced, that's all

I've corrected the name of the flexi coupling company in case it is needed by you or anyone else.

The VAG parts site, it takes a bit of getting used to, though the exhaust pipes are with the "fuel system and pipes" and not "engine" keep moving through the pages, next number up until you find your exhaust and the area you are interested in.

I had a look underneath and the centre pipe is f%#cked big time.
Order a new one tomorrow and organise the MOT for next week. Done.

After a good check I realised that the centre pipe has been replaced with a botched together straight through pipe. Got a new one and it should be fine in a day or two.

Hope you do get it sorted!

Probably a botched DIY repair on the cheap by the last owner. Cheap for them, headache and extra costs for you...

Checked the sizes Badger and it's good to go. Down pipe is good and the rear pipe looks fairly new so it should be easy enough.
