Hey everyone the mrs saw that I had fitted DAB to my car and decided that “it’d be great if I could have that” so off I go to get all the parts ordered. She had when it was new a RCD 215 in there with the hazard, esp switch and passenger airbag light underneath and the factory garmin PID unit on top of the dash. Imagine from google as I didn’t take one before lol.

Parts I reckoned I’d need were:

Dension DAB+U unit,
Dab aerial base (6J0 035 501 B)
Aerial adapter from Connect2 (CT27AA111)
Fakra extension from Connect2 (CT27AA154)
Seat usb/aux in control unit (6J0 035 342 E)
Repair wires or pins 000 979 009 E x10
Small clear crimp/heat shrink connectors.
Blue crimp/heat shrink connectors.
Head unit (6J2 035 153 H)
Switch pack (6J0 927 137 AG)
A connector for the media in (part number to follow)

She didn’t have the media/usb in installed at factory, so didn’t have the cut out in the dash. But as it’s only going to be for the Dension DAB unit I’m not too fussed about access (secured behind the dash is fine) so I made up a nice little loom to hide it out the way (it’s all covered in black cloth tape now mind.

Repined the connector for the hazard etc:

I’ve decided the fit the other standard stereo as I found it cheap so why not. Got it all in today just gotta run the aerial but it picks up stations and more importantly looks OEM.

The only thing I’m getting a little stuck on is the PID on the old head unit it’s wired slightly differently. I’ve worked out that it needs an ignition live to work and charge the battery etc I’ve coded the media in for an aux input so the nav, Bluetooth etc can pass through it. But my Elsa only goes up to 2013 which is a pain as I can’t find a diagram for the PID with the new head unit.

A bit more trail and error is needed but so far it’s looking good.
