Quick question,

Just looking trough the service schedule and I can't see an interval for the fuel filter on the 1.4, or any petrol car. Is this a lifetime part? Just changed the filter on my daughters Toledo and the diesel is 56k miles but nothing for the 1.4 tsi.

Thank you :0)

Quite often on newer petrol cars, they don't run a fuel filter as it's not needed.
I see? I did not know that. Surprising. I poured out filter from my daughter's Toledo and it was pretty dirty in there. How come cars can run without them? Why don't the injectors get blocked up?

There will be a sieve before the lift pump in or near the tank.
I'd think that my wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS will still have a petrol filter, though I'd need to check up on that, the position is or recommendation is, replace if suspected it is faulty. My 2011 Audi S4 has no replaceable petrol in its fuel system, so that means just a sieve before the lift pump.
Going as far back to maybe 2008, my wife's previous VW Polo 1.4 16V BBY, 75PS(!), had a replaceable petrol filter, but at maybe 60K miles, when I considered that it might be a good idea to replace it, I went into my local VW main dealership - and they ordered one in for me, ie it was not a stocked item - I think that that indicates VW Group's view of what/when these petrol fuel filters should be replaced - ie even back then "on failure only".

Edit:- actually maybe nearer reality, when cars had highish pressure electric petrol pumps, the bigger source of particles in the fuel, would be these crappy highish pressure electric fuel pumps!

The filter is integrated with the fuel pump installed in the fuel tank. Not any service item, duration: lifetime of the car.

Great, one less thing to do. I could see a plastic housing tucked under the end of the undertray which I thought might be a filter but happy days. Thank you.

Petrol's just don't need it, fuel is clean enough.

As above, there's a little sock thingy on the end of the fuel pump which acts as a filter.

My 2016 Ibiza EA211 1.0 litre 3 cylinder 95 hp has one, It's under the rear floor and can be easily seen once the car is jacked up. It incorporates a pressure regulator and there are two which will physically fit each with different pressures. I see mine has the pressure detailed on it (6+ bar, can't remember exactly the figure) so be careful to get the right one. The connectors are "squeezy" type and I bought a tool off ebay to tackle them as I've read they are easily damaged if tackled with the likes of long nose pliers.

As mentioned above there's no recommended change interval for them and both my local main dealer and independent Audi/VAG specialist tells me they don't routinely change them, but I've seen one cut open and the filter element looks like a pretty ordinary paper type and this worries me as I've seen paper element types break up with old age thus shedding little bits of element paper into the system. My car is now into it's seventh year since first reg and I've decided I'm going to change it this summer just for peace of mind - it's not as if it's a great expense.

It looks like this: https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/quinton-hazell-11950243.html with the inlet and bleed off return to the tank on one end and the feed to the engine on the other. The wee dome is the pressure regulator.
