RNS.510: The Firmware Story...

All,

We in The netherlands are also looking for this mystery regarding the firmware and the new features available as seen at other satnav's like the Vw or Skoda ones.
I'm member of another forum in NL, seat-online and 14-dec some one posted this, a letter from PON, the main distributer from VAG in NL.

Pon’s Automobielhandel B.V.
Afdeling Klantenservice SEAT
...

Hint: tanslate it by translate.google.com.

I can tell you: stop looking for Firmware, it wont work.
PON tells in this letter that there are no updates for Seat and they tested the firmware but it won't work :(

Also there is no news about updates, they are relying on the factory which creates the updates...

i tried the V6 maps on my RNS510 with firmware 0996 and it works fine, also i made my own DVD with speedcams and this also works fine with firmware 0996 and V6 western europe :D

Hope this helps regarding the Seat Media System RNS510 mystery, and credits goes to rvw30 from NL for the letter to PON.

Regards,
Marcel.

Hello I'm too busy for a while to collect info on possibly new firmware for my seat media system. Ultimately have an email sent to pon Netherlands, but the answer was really bad in my opinion. See below and .......

Judge for yourself.

-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------
Here we respond further to your email of November 19 last.
We would like to respond as follows:

First we want to inform us, Pon Car, Seat importer for the Netherlands.
Sales and After Sales of our products to the consumer directly through the official SEAT dealers.
As a result, dealers are responsible for diagnosis,
the related information and resolving any technical problems
on the cars of their customers.

Our dealer organization was established to questions regarding the firmware update Seat Media System to treat and we believe that your question about even the most
effectively by the Seat dealer can be treated.
If our dealers need advice, they can obtain this course in technical or warranty specialists Seat.

These specialists have no customer contact, they are the only contact for the Seat dealers.

Since you're already at the dealers and they were obviously you could not help
We have your own questions submitted to our colleagues from the Department of Technical Support.
We must inform you that no firmware update available.

Unfortunately we can not say at what time this is possible.
Here we depend on the Seat factory that provide updates.

It is not possible for the firmware of Skoda / Vw to use, it is not released for all brands.
We have already tested and it is unfortunately not good.

In the trust you enough to have this information, we remain,

Best regards,

Mine is running SW1020....

Yep, and is exactly the same as 0996...no time in display, no volume bar below instead of in the screen , etc etc as seen in newer firmwares from Vw and Skoda.

Anyways, just wanted to clarify the newer firmware versions on the net
And thanks m0rk for the translation :D

i think mine has 1024 fw... no difference to any of the others though. I have been on numerous other forums but no one can help. It is poor when you look at all the features of the vw and skoda ones now and the seat unit can only do half of what the others can!!

to name a few - voice recognition, lots of tweaks to actual system making it more user friendly, actual picture navigation so you see real pictures on the screen.... its goes on!

On the Leon with a VW unit installed, do you get the battery drain issue when running new firmware on the RNS510(2660) with an old CAN Gateway?

I pick my Leon up tomorrow and I m stickingin my RNS from my R32

its depends what year your car is from reading other posts if it my07 on then you should be ok. Only problem with the vw unit in the leon is you have to trim the facia to allow it to fit as it is slightly bigger due to the sd card reader

Oh never realised that! How much do you have to trim it? Or is it just file it slightly. I had a look at the nav retrofit sticky and it does not mention trimming the fascia, is it very marginal?

yeah as far as i am aware it is only only slight and i believe you only have to trim to actual facia but i do remember reading on here that someone had to actual cut away a small piece of plastic in the rear of the housing too

to let you know that my facia fits perfect BUT.....

When you take the original radio out in the hole (where the radio sits) on the bottom you need to take out the plastic in the middle of the bottom. This allows the SD card reader to fit properly otherwise the radio will not go in.

you also need to smash out a bit at the back right of the hole to allow the radio ariel connection to go through as standard it hits off it and wont allow the radio to push right back.

Only HW04+ VW RNS510 units get SDHC functionality. I'm still on 1100 v6 maps as it does everything I need it to do (and my unit is HW03 anyway!) - you're not missing out on much lads.
