Startup noise

Hi, just wondering if anyone can give any pointers as to what this could be....

The car is a 08 Ibiza Sport 1.9tdi (pd 100) on 53k miles (all services have been at seat dealer so assume that correct oil and parts have been used!), I started it up on Saturday for a short journey and it sounded a lot lounder on startup than normal. The noise only lastest for a few seconds then settled to its normal smooth tickover. The noise sounded "tappety" - if that makes sense!? Having not used the car on Sunday I started it up again this morning and it made the same noise.

Started it up after a day at work this evening and it started fine - My drive to work is 55 miles so could it be that a decent length run this morning cleared something?

Just wondered if anyone has had any thing similar?

In my 1.4 petrol, It idles with a slight rattle that dissapears when you put the clutch down. Seems like the plates are rubbing or something....

I don't know if this is the same as you or not???

Hi thanks, for the replies, the noise only lasted a few seconds at most and it was regardless of clutch, noise disappears on it own without any change on clutch, throttle etc.

I'm having a high pitch squeaky rattle on start up, can happen some days others it doesn't
I rev in neutral for about 20s at 2krpm and it goes back to normal idle
so it seems as the engine warms up it goes

That will be the clutch release bits dancing around - that is the way these things are, in ye olde days the trick was for the dealer to adjust the idle speed to "lose" that noise - if you complained!

the engine rattle might be the engine cover...i got this after i topped up the oil where removing the cap must have loosened it

My PD130 does this to, But only in the cold months after its been sitting overnight or for many hours and its not had time to warm up. But it does go away after 2seconds.
