Hi,

My Polo has done 52K and has already blown a coil pack last month. Going to be changing all my coil packs when it gets its next service and wondering if you can get uprated coil packs compared to the one that come stanadard (BJX).

Cheers :)

I am very fortunate as I had already bought a "same build standard" coil - NOS from ebay about a couple of months before one failed on my wife's Polo 1.4 BBY. After that one was used I quickly grabed another couple again from ebay (when cheap - whatever that price was!) - the first one was used but okay (stupid sort to buy!) and a later issue of the same part.

The ones that suit my car have gone through quite a few revisions. The first version ('a) was renowned for blowing up or catching fire. The latest one is an 'n' spec, and you can tell the difference in build between the two.

What I did was find the part number of the one to be replaced (usually stamped on it), then go to Seat to find it's version history. Then back on to Ebay to find them cheap. I managed to get three 'n' spec ones for £15 each, whereas the dealer wanted £30.

You should be able to do the same with yours, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have a similar lengthy revision history.

Although by the looks of your last post you're already ahead of me! :)

Yeah done a wee look on other forums lastnight and the latest version came out the end of last year. Not sure what version is in my car just now?

Part Number i found for the latest ones is 06A 905 115 D but thats off all the TT forums. Not sure if they would fit my Polo tho. Is the coil packs in the 225 engines different from the 150 engines?

Slimy have you got a part number for the ones you got mate?

 They are a consumable item with a limited lifespan.

I don't think that that was the original idea, these parts should be fit and forget, its only due to the manfacturers tending to move their build plants to "cheaper zones" that has caused most of these problems with unsuitable assembly methods and potting compounds.

Remember years ago that new Skoda Octavias were being stored up after Audi dealers had harvested their older stock coil packs to keep sold car on the road. In the USA VAG had to lease huge fleets of Toyotas to hand out until a reliable first resolution had been worked out!
