Water pump DIES at 39K?! How easy is it to fix? (Cupra 20VT)

Has this happened to anyone else at such a low mileage?

The car began overheating about 30 mins into my trip to work. Oil and water levels were fine. RAC guy checked it and found that air wasn't being heated at full whack. It is now at my regular garage but i'm considering taking on the job myself with my v experienced brother. Is this easy enough to do and worth the saving?

Regards, Ash

its audi TT 225 pump is the metal impelored one.had mine replaced with the cambelt (this has to come off to get the pump out).circa 200 quid iirc fitted by a specialist. i recomend awesome gti in warrington.top service .

edit:awesome charged me 25.80 for the pump plus fitting+belt+tensioners+ vat so not an acurate estimate

when awesome did mine there was nothing wrong with the belt, but that's just one risk i wasn't willing to take at 65000 miles.
that's nearly half the recommended mileage
