hi guys, i have come across a local mechanic who has advised that he can re map my car pretty cheap

he has advised that the remap will include a dyno before and after.

the map is not a stage 1 map, but a map that he will create on the day specific to my car and my needs

sounds really good to me... can anything go wrong????

i've never had a car mapped before so not sure what it involves

if im right in guessing does it mean, upping the boost, setting up the fuel air ratio etc???

very little can go wrong with a tried and tested remap.
but if your mates doing it from scratch then its all down to his ability. What cars is he used to mapping?

he has done work on a cupra r 225, seems to be running pretty smooth.

he said i can watch while he does the remap and can choose the level of boost and choose the curve that suits me best.

whatl level off boost is set on a stage 1??? compared to a stage 2???

id get it done from a renouned mapping specialist such as CUSTOM CODE, REVO, AMD, JABBASPORT.

If hes telling you that you can choose the level of boost? does he really know what hes talking about??

Most popular places will know exactly what to set your boost at so they dont kill the turbo, how much would he charge you by the way?? trust me, cheaper is not always the better option eg, i had aftermarket cooling fans fitted to my LCR, and now they send vibrations through the car every time they come on, i should have gone for genuine.

So, with remapping, i would always go to a "trusted source" in my opinion. And if cash is short, save that extra few quid.

hope this helps

Lol 285bhp with just a forge dv and ind kit, absolute tosh ....

Even with a decat, straight through exhaust, TIP, and all the rest youd hit about 270 - 275!!!

forge dv and ind kit youll get max about 265bhp, unless as stated, hes ranked the boost up too much!!! and bye bye turbo

Stick to either a VAG specialist or one of the forum sponsor's.
There's normally plenty of offer's that come up around Christmas.

Go to a place where you can get in contact with the workshop.
DONT get a send tune from ex. Revo, thats NOT the way of doing it.

Walk away.......quickly.
You can tell him what boost you want?
What do you know about car mapping?
As above, go with someone known and with a proven record, unless you REALLY trust this guy to stand by you through thick and thin

Tell him you'd like 30psi of boost...

then get ready for an engine rebuild.

Once upon a time every one wanted to be a DJ, these days anyone who owns a laptop thinks they can become a remap specialist.

In the world of modifications short cut measures, bodge jobs and sticky plaster jobs only equal one thing. Bigger bills in a few weeks.

Don't do it. Choose someone who can support you, will be in business next week, have a reputation, have race experience, have loyal supporting customers.......

You know the answer already.

It does sound a bit suspect I have to admit! I usually one to say to people (other people lol!) to try something different... but the claims are a bit far fetched!

Also:

he has advised that the remap will include a dyno before and after.

yet you say with respect to the 225LCR

that ones not been on a rolling road yet

So how can it be a custom map then? Unless it's been mapped on the road... which I'm all for, but it should really be cross/double checked with a dyno session!
