Posted this elsewhere with no recommendations forthcoming. So, I have a couple of main dealer services to use on my Cupra R ST ABT, any experiences to share good or bad? Ideally Lincs/Cambs areas.

I don't think there are many ABTs under 3 years old now. I have 2 complimentary SEAT services and MOT's to make use of, and a over a 15 months warranty left. Doesn't mean it won't visit a specialist at some point though.

Theres a main dealer service which is oil and filter, then theres a proper service which an independant will change air filter oil filter pollen filter service haldex service dsg chamge plugs brake fluid coolant change. So the free services you got are just oil changes, by all means use them but they will only be bare bones basic which if your car is over three years old it will require more.

Unless you want to pay extra for those at main dealer rip off prices. Not meaning to offend you. 😁

It depends on what services he's been offered, I suspect that it would be a minor service AND a major service.

Seats major service doesnt include dsg, coolant, brake fluid, haldex etc its very basic. But if youve got any advice to offer the pauly go ahead. 😀

I wouldn't say that it's 'very basic', so if you go to an indy and ask for a major service would you definitely get all those extra things done?
And of course if you book on-line for a service you get Roadside Assistance for a year. :D

🤣 sign me up . It is very basic the diff between major and minor service is pittyfull and includes nothing much other than checks. Where as you could have all of what i stated done a lot cheaper at a specialist which would prolong the life of your car. The dealer has given free service to lock you in as a consumer to up sell you all the proper maintenance services i stated haldex dsg coolant brake fluid etc etc and you know they charge a premium. But each and to their own, if you've got the money to blow crack on.
I would use the free services by the way but there is other maintenance that needs doing.
I just prefer specialists as they are more knowledgeable do a more thorough job and it wont be a spotty 18yo on minimum wage working on my car that doesnt give a f.

Thanks for the replies. There's a prep invoice for £450 from the supplying dealer, that includes the Haldex oil and brake fluid change 5k miles ago. If the major service doesn't include the DSG oil, I'll have that done by a specialist. Ultimately the services are free oil changes, and an entry in the service history. Plus a check over to see if any warranty work is required. I think there may be a video to highlight what has been done too? I'll probably give the test drive and wash a miss though.

Re the DSG service, the car has done 19k miles and is 3.5 years old. I am inclined to get it done this year, but is it overkill at the mileage. And should I expect to pay over £220 with decent oil.

£220 !!! That’s legacy pricing for the old 6 speed DQ250.
Less oil, cheaper oil, easier servicing.

Your looking at ~£350+ for DQ381 for it to be done with genuine parts (you only want the correct oil for this gearbox).
The oil alone costs around £200.

Ring around some VAG specialists in your area and ask for a quotes.

I did mine myself on year 2 of ownership, and it cost a lot, but at least I know it was done properly. This year, year 4 I’ll take it a local VAG specialist, bite the bullet on price, but at least it will be on the online service record.

£350+, is it really 2 hours labour at a specialist to change the oil? And at what miles/age is this in the SEAT service schedule?

Oil is 6ltrs @ ~£35 per litre.
Oil filter, new drain plugs. It’s £250 in parts before labour is even factored in on this gearbox.

It’s not quick.
Remove airbox, battery tray if being thorough to access oil filter.
Access gearbox, drain gearbox, refill to temporary level.
Reassemble.
Run up to temperature.
Level set procedure.
Finish & cleanup.
Reset adaptations.

Not something I'd do on an ABT, but I expect some with this gearbox will wait until 80k, or not do it at all.

I messaged a VW/Audi specialist with the details of my car and gearbox, and they quoted me £180 for the DSG oil change. I contacted them again to check the price, and they confirmed it. Think I'll drop in when I'm next passing, and see if I was speaking to the right person.

I’d ask them to confirm they are using genuine parts, and get them to confirm part numbers of the oil and oil filter they will use.
Should be G055529A2 for oil and 0GC325183A for filter
