Are these easy to get repaired. Some git in a lorry has just chucked up a stone and left a massive chip on my windscreen. Is the FRs front tinted or just the sides?

I used to work for Autoglass so this is my speciality ;-)

They'll repair anything up to three chips at one time on the windscreen as long as they're all smaller than about the size of a £ coin and are over 3 inches away from each other and the side of the screen.

The front windscreen on the Leon (all models) is slightly tinted green with a blue sun visor at the top. In the trade this is known as an "####AGNBL", and are fairly common.

Check your insurance policy. Chips are usually free to have repaired with no excess and it won't affect your no claims etc. It's in the insurance company's interest to prevent having to fork out the 3-400 quid for a brand new screen. even at the cheap rate they probably have it arranged at!

Process takes about 20 minutes per chip. For the best results, ask to take it into a branch to make sure you get a proper job done.

Yes they are FOC if you have fully comp AND are of a limited size <10mm? - just had to get mine done?!?@

If they're right in front of the driver, it has to be smaller than 10mm across. If it's all the way over on the passenger side, can me up to 25mm across.

Slightly off topic sorry , but about a year ago somebody broke into my Celica via the passenger window to nick the GPS. I claimed under the glass part of the policy to replace the passenger window only not for the GPS or other other damage done and have found since that I need to declare this and some companies refuse to quote me.

Is this right?, and would the same be true for a stone chip repair in the windscreen?

The glass cover for the vehicle only covers the glass. If something was stolen, the whole claim would need to come under the theft part of the policy.. this CAN affect your NCB etc. where as glass claims do not.
