Hello all. Just picked up a 2nd Altea for me after having passed the 1.9TDi on to the g/f.
When starting the car, there is a horrible and strange noise - kind of like the noise a car makes when the exhaust is snapped off at the downpipe.
It also takes a good few seconds to come to life, but when it does, it runs lovely, smooth, quiet and without any smoke.
Has done 93k and has a decent amount of history. There is no engine fault light illuminated.
I have had several PD engines before, in Passats and Golf 4s, all of which started instantly whatever the weather, I've never heard anything oike this before.
Has anyone got any ideas? The only thing I could imagine from my knowledge was if something like the anti-shudder mechanism was faulty?
I have never had to work on anything like that, only really servicing and the odd EGR clean.
