Car misfires like crazy

So I've got an issue with my car, it idles bad, and drives even worse.
I'm no stranger to misfires, my previous golf suffered badly from them.
But this time I didn't have access to any scanning device so I went in blind.
I swapped all coils, no change, swapped sparks, no change.
I have a friend with the same car and engine so I even tried his MAF to no avail.

Then I got to scan it, have the following:

5 Faults Found:
16955 - Brake Switch (F)
P0571 - 35-00 - Implausible Signal
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 -
16685 - Cylinder 1
P0301 - 35-00 - Misfire Detected
16687 - Cylinder 3
P0303 - 35-00 - Misfire Detected
17764 - Cylinder 1 Ignition Circuit
P1356 - 35-10 - Short to Plus - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

Basically am I looking at a broken wiring leading into coil 1?
My electrical plugs that attach to the coils are looking a bit worse for wear too.
I've fiddled around with them, ensured they're definitely plugged into the coils and they are.

Mine has similar issues with similar codes , except on mine I codes up o2 sensor bank 1instead of brake switch!

I found a load of vac leaks , which I'm in the process of doing PC removal!

Also got a good diagnostic guy on stand by if it still the same after!

I'm doing all the mods and part changes I wanted first to see if it sorts it!

If not he will come in and check it out!

I feel your pain man.
I don't think I have vac leaks, I've check around everything I can get to, I also have a boost gauge which reads vacuum consistently too.
I'm sure it's the wiring for the connector that goes into coil 1, but I just can't see any damage anywhere on it.

Out of the 4 connections only 1 of them has the clip that holds it in, the others all have signs of damage or cracks on the exterior casing so god knows how bad the wires are inside.
I just can't get access to any of it. Ideally I'd replace all the connectors and wires, does anyone know if there's a kit for that or have I gotta diy it?

You could use the part above to replace the connector to coil number 1. That wouldn't explain why you have a misfire on cylinder 3 as well though.

If you have changed all the coils and plugs, then it can only really be the wiring to the coils, a fueling/mixture issue of some kind (due to a pcv leak, weak pump, blocked injectors, bad sensor etc etc etc) or less likely some sort of mechanical damage.

It needs to be scanned and logged with VCDS really..... Turbo charged engines are pretty complicated and diagnosing problems with them is quite involved. Unless you have a good understanding of how engines and engine management systems work then you are probably just wasting your time and money trying to solve this kind of issue.

Take it to a VAG specialist and let them look at it.

I have a full vcds log. But I can't make sense of it. I'll be taking it somewhere in the week to get it checked, was just checking here incase it was something simple id overlooked.

Ah right mate, like i say i think having replaced all the coils and plugs then you've ruled out the obvious things....You could post the logs up if you wanted though.

I could be worth replacing all 4 coil connectors, but it depends if your confident in doing it or not and may just be a waste of time.

Didn't mean to sound like i was saying you couldn't solve it yourself. I obviously don't know your level of knowledge on these things, it's just from experience on here these sort of engine issues are beyond 90% of peoples capability to solve.....They just end up chasing their tail and spending a fortune on unnessecary parts.

Taking it to someone who works with vag engines day in and day out, is often much cheaper and far less painful than trying to troubleshoot it yourself.

Oh yeah I agree with you lol.
I had spare coils and sparks anyway so that as a free swap, Ive been down the route of swapping allsorts out in the past and got nowhere so I'm definitely not doing that again.
I'll post the logs up later when I'm home.
But like you say, besides the usual stuff I'm in over my head here anyway.

That's what i would need to replace the broken plugs, I just had another look at one and the plastic inside is broken up with the terminals exposed.
It's a real tight fit in there though, my fingers are too fat to twiddle with those wires

Quick update.
Had the wiring harness and connections replaced and it's all working fine, no more misfires and no more management light.
Out of the 4, only 1 was intact.
