Courtesy cars from main dealers

for the sake of arguement, if I buy a new SEAT from either a SEAT dealer or broker, then take it to a different SEAT garage for servicing, am I any less likely to get a courtesy car if they know my car wasn't purchased from them?

What's making me wonder is this (quote from a SEAT salesman I was on phone to earlier):

the other advantage in buying from a local dealer is, when you start bringing it in for servicing you'll get a courtesy car etc.

Is this the way it normally works? Am I less likely to get a courtesy car if the servicing garage know it wasn't bought from them?

The stealer is talking rubbish. You'll get a courtesy car from any main Seat dealer providing you give them enough notice prior to service - 2 to 3 weeks is the norm.

Not so sure about talking rubbish....my local stealer won't provide a courtesy car as I didn't buy the car from them!!!!

it seems to me that every dealer is different.

miller middleton in colchester told me that they only offer courtesy cars for servicing and not for warrenty work (even though they needed 3 attempts to fix my aircon).

Cheshunt motor company in chesunt gave me a car and fixed my aircon at the 1st attempt.

i didnt but my car from either of these dealers. it might be worth shopping around

Should make no difference if you've bought the car from them. If you want a courtesy car they should be able to provide you with one as long as you give sufficient notice. Makes good business sense to them, if they don't provide one, you are likely to take your business elsewhere. I make sure I do !

Nope "dealers can offer a courtesy car at thier discretion" ( thats the way SEAT CS put it to me when I complained about no car from Emmer Green )

The dealer is NOT obliged to give you any form of loan car, SEAT don't force them to, so some dealers won't let you have a car unless you bought it from them. EMMER Green in Reading being one of them. Completely discusting if you ask me, no idea what customer service is...

Bought mine at JCT600, but am having it serviced at Ted Johnsons in Barnsley.

"Courtesy car? No problem. We just need to see your driving license when you pick it up"

This was with 3 weeks notice of the booking for the service.

My supplying dealer is not the one I use for service.
The dealer who services my car (New Southgate Seat North London) is more than happy to provide a courtesy car which is great and for sat services as well! I just have to arrange temp cover on my insurance and direct line are happy to do this for free.

It seems that I have NEVER given enough notice to the two dealers who have serviced and done warranty work on my car to get a loan car. Once I gave them 6 weeks...

I suppose that you get what you pay for - my local Audi dealer was always able to provide a loan car.

got my car booked in yesterday (17th) for the 28th with a courtesy car at SEAT in derby, didnt buy it from them though. (anyone know what types of car they give you...suppose no chance of being given an R courtesy car is there? )

Bought my car from All Electric Garages, New Oscott. When warranty work was needed they said they would supply me with a Courtesy car but I would have to pay £15 a day to cover the insurance (which I was not very pleased about). I then contacted Colliers who said they would carry out the warranty work but would not supply a courtesy car as they were not the supplying dealer.

when booking the car in for service, warranty etc, every seat dealer should ask you if you need transportation. that could be a loan car, a bus ticket, taxi etc. etc.

if you ask for a loan car, you will get one (provided you drive on your own insurance), though you will have to schedule the appointment early ahead (2-3 weeks in advance, depends on the dealer and how much service cars they have).

And it has to be fully comprehensive. Your own comp. insurance will only cover you third party on a car not owned by you, and the dealership will not loan you a car unless it is fully comp. hence the charge of £15 a day.

I bought my car a few months ago now and when i picked it up it was full of crap so i went in to Seat today and asked for a free Valet to which they said no problem and when i asked for a courtesy car they said no problem (Looks like a life full of fun on the red cos everyone knows Hire Cars are the quickest form of transport you can get)

Forgot to mention, the car goes in for the valet on Wednesday!!! So not bad for Seat, apart from the fact i havent washed it for weeks (been waiting for this for a while)

That is just not true. The dealer is under no obligation from SEAT to give you a loan car OR any kind of help with transport. I've been in contact with SEAT UK over the very issue and was told it is up to the dealer whether they provide these services and if they do, they can choose to loan to whoever they like.

I'm voting with my money, a dealer that doesn't provide a loan car won't get my business.

Yeah, I agree. But Emmer Green won't (because I didn't buy my car from them), Camberley Seat 'never had one available' and Datchet 'will have one if you give us enough notice'. You might have to go further afield...
