Right guys, not been on here for about a year, i used to own a ibiza Cupra but sold it last year for an Astra VXr. I love my vxr and can't fault it in any way:). Im sure some of you will have some comments on the VXR:confused:

Anyway my wife and i are expecting our first child :D and im thinking about changing the car as i will be needing a little more room, 5doors  I've always liked the leon Cupra r, and thought of getting one after my ibiza. The price has dropped a fair bit and could get a nice 225 version for around 11-12k. It would save me a good 150bucks a month on a loan compared to my vxr. Also looking a 3 series Bm's

So really don't know what to do, just needing some help, what do you think

Totally diff cars, the LCR and the 3 series,
depends on what you want from a car, you can get a nice 5 door BMW but i wouldn't go any smaller engine size that a 325 even that won't touch the cupra r.
Drive both and see hwat you think, thats the only real advice i have!

The new shape 3 series is pretty smart. The older shape is... a question of taste.

I don't like my cars to be shaped like a box.

If I were in your shoes I'd be looking for a 330 Estate. Friend at work has got one as it's a fantastic mix of practicality, comfort and performance. BIG boot, very comfortable, safe and still gives my LCR a headache when playing ;)

Slaughters me off the line though, sadly

Yea, in your shoes I would also be looking at a 330i estate - preferably a sport which adds the 18" MV alloys, bodykit and a few other bits and bobs. 330d is a great diesel and powerful, but their a bit more cash.

Having owned an E46 328ci and a 330ci sport, I can highly recommend them from an ownership point of view. Slow depreciation (if you buy wisely), nice inside and pretty quick. They are common as muck now, but at least if you hate it you can sell it on easily!!

Well i suppose! lol but saying that the 3 series is supposed to be the new Mondeo on the roads isnt it? I live about 5 miles from bmw-mini plant and there are thousands of the bloody things round here! not that it really ever bothered me....because the models they all drive were out of my budget regardless!

Cheers for the comments guys, would have to say that im not a lover of estates, and would probably never buy one, except the rs6 or the new m5....if i win the lottery :funk:

In my town there are only 2 other vxr's so they are not very common at all, while the LCR's are, but give it a few years im sure they will be  Still love them though!!

Anyway going to see a LCR and 330sport (4door) tmrw so will have a wee look then:whistle:

It's quite the opposite around here, I see just as many VXR and Focus ST's as I do the standard versions. Not many LCR's though. Odd how it changes so much from region to region :)

Two good choices of car mind you and if I weren't so far away I'd try and convince you to buy my LCR ;)

Funny you say that but i flew all the way down to Southampton to pick up my Vxr, it was a long drive home, about 8-9hours, but fun all the same:D

cant comment on other cars as I've never owned them, but i bought a LCR (225) because my girlfriend had our 2nd daughter and we had a 3door car, so i wanted a bigger car with 5 doors. it has LOADS of boot space, we've just been to butlins and it got 3 suit cases in it (the 3 that go inside of each other if know what i mean, 1 large, 1 medium, 1 small) a buggy and a couple of gym bags in. the more i drive it the better i like it, for example, i had the sat nav plugged in the front lighter socket, and my daughter wanted to watch the dvd player so i plugged that one into the the one thats in the boot, excellent all smiles around!, its very quite has air con and climate control so you can stay cool on hot days and warm on cold days, plus when the familys not in the car you still have a load of power, it really is a good family car while the kids are young.

Hi,

I have just sold my 3 series coupe and got an 04 LCr and have also just had a track day where I drove a VXR Astra round Thruxton.

The 3 series and the LCR are totally different! If you want smoothness and more space over performance and rawness then go for the 3 series...ofcourse you will get much better value with a Seat....BMW are expensice to buy and service.....even at a specialist.

The VXR is awesome!!!! It pains me to say it, but is a better drive than an LCR, but is not as practicle.

If you really got to sell the VXR then go for a LCR, not a 3 series.

To be honest i think 3 series bmw's are starting to look good value - i mean, a 328ci will set you back as little as £6.5k at the moment.......thats a hell of a lot of car for the money!

They are coming down in price now.....but to get one that cheap it will be a high miler thats 8 or 9 years old, not that great value.
