Dealer or specialist servicing?

Jabba Sport is only 30 minutes up the road from me and I have noticed that they service the LCR for the same, if not cheaper than my local SEAT dealer.

The question is..... am I going to devalue the car by having service work carried out by a 'specialist' company or should I just stick with the dealer.

Anyone got any experience with them?

You probably won't loose as much as you would pay out if that makes sense.

ie - save £400 on servicing, but car will be devalued by 300 for not having it....

but if it were me, I'd prefer to see a specialist service a car.

although jabba havnt serviced my car they have done several jobs on my car and ive been very happy with the outcome.

ive not been as impressed with my local dealer who goes pale the moment he spots any mod. as im mapped ect its more important for me to have my car looked after by experts as opposed having a nice looking service book with matching stamps.

i doubt youd loose a lot value wise

I'll be going specialist all the way. Even in warranty for me.

I've had work carried out at the dealers and everytime they've caused another problem, not done something right or damaged something else.

Specialists do what's asked and do it properly without carrying out stuff you haven't asked them to do.

Ok so they don't wash the car but all the dealers do is rub the dirt around with a gritty sponge anyway!

As Mork said, I'd much sooner buy a motor with a specialist history...

I get mine serviced at Jabba (again, not far up the road) and they've always been very good. The waiting room is a lot smarter than most garages I've been to & the staff are friendly.

On a (very) slightly more technical note... the services have been top notch and they use OEM service parts.

I tend to take a day off to get the service done, but they have got a courtesy car.

As to whether it will devalue your car, it think it depends on who you'd sell it to. If it was me, I would as happy with a specialist service history vs a main dealer - however a trade-in place might not, I dunno.

i'm toying with 3 quotes at the moment
specialist 80 mile away
local dealer 30 mile away
local garage that i have used before 500 yards away.
IMHO cambelt change is my only heart stopper with the car, costs lots to do and even more if it fails(generally)i wll insist on metal impellared water pump,so that may rule out dealer, local place can source the parts ,but 160 mile round trip for a team with a great reputation that work on the same engine day in day out.
as for depreciation,i'd sooner see a stamp from awesome/jabba/jbs than a SEAT dealer any day of the week.
but as said above depends who's buying .

i'm getting mine serviced by star performance. £ 78 compared to SEATs £156. no contest really as arnold clark only change the oil and filter then give you a list as long as your arm of things your car desperately needs, like £150 for front pads on a ibiza cupra sport, two tyres (budget) £5000 slight exageration there but you get my drift.

Have to say I agree that it depends on what you plan to do with the car. Personally, in a private sale I would be delighted to find a car that had specialist servicing from the likes of Jabba. To me it shows that a car has had an enthusiastic owner who has cared for the car.

But as said, I suspect come to a trade in in will make a difference.

I usually sell my car's privately so maybe a specialist service history wouldn't be such a bad idea?
