It could be the wiper motor is not fixed in place correctly and is in side the car to much and pulling the wiper nearer the window, or if the bolts holding it in place have come loose the motor would fall back in the car pulling the wiper nearer the window, :shrug:

I had the same issue on my Ibiza FR with the Polo wiper. I think it's down to the adjustment of the mounting bolt through the tailgate. This is adjustable as far as I know, but is a pain due to the difficulties of removing the trim. Luckily for me, on the polo wiper it was plastic rather than metal rubbing, so a bit of work with a stanley knife trimmed the problem area back.

On my Ibiza Sport with another new Polo wiper I had no issues.

maybe you put the wiper arm on too tight, and hence got it too close to the window?
Did this mod years ago and never once had a problem. Hope you get it sorted ok! :)
