Any ideas what it could be?
Been driving with this fault for 2 years now with no issues but I think it's time to get it sorted

Just a couple of questions:- 1) is the lead that should be connected to the BMS actually plugged into the plastic dongle at the battery -VE post. 2) does auto Stop/Start work for this car?

Now if you can clear that fault and it does not return, then I think that it was just a transient or ghost glitch that has caused that fault to be logged, if your car is still under warranty, I's guess that they would check for stored fault codes, read and consider any stored codes, clear all stored codes and say "come back if it returns and we'll look into it a bit more".

Everything seems to be in place
Start stop has been deactivated, about 2 years after deactivating this started popping up, but you're probably right about linking this to start stop, i should have mentioned, when I start the car I get a warning on the dash the first time I stop after starting up if that makes sense, says start stop error but nothing else.
Not in warranty any more, and I've cleared the faults several times now but this one keeps coming back.
Re activated the start stop to see if it fixes it but it won't work.

I had a similar fault to this when my previous Mk3 Leon was a few days old. The first time it occurred the glow plug light was pulsing on/off, and the stop/start warning came up on the infotainment screen/MFD. I will take a look over the weekend to see if I can find the VCDS scans.

In summary, the battery control module had failed; because the car was one of the first FRs in UK, and I was driving it back to Germany that day, the dealer had to cannibalise parts from their showroom model in order to get me back on the road.
