Ball joints

Hello, firstly a big thanks to pabs for the excellent work done on this. I've got my brackets done, and now painted thanks to a quiet night shift, but I have a question about the ball joints? What length did every one use? There seems to be quite alot of choice. I also used 3 mm stainless as aposed to the Ali. For a lower profile.

Cheers

I think my ball joints were 20mm in length, not 100% sure though. Personally don't think +/i 10mm total (ie 5mm on each end) on those will be a problem.

Haven't read through the full thread but from what I can see the lifters are very similar to one's I had on my old C2. They were actually designed for a Punto but loads of people had them on C2's!

So the point I'm making is surely the INXX one's that sell on eBay, as long as they are designed for a smiliar sized car with a similar sized bonnet, they would work on the Ibiza?

These for a mondeo would have plenty of power to cope with the weight of a little Ibiza surely?

What do you guys think?

dont forget, the ones you mention may be TOO strong, and hence bend your bonnet when you try to close.
They may also be too long, and force the hinges to open too far, or perhaps they don't open it enough so you bang your head every time you try to work in your engine bay.

So long as the gas struts you have seen are a similar length, with same size ball-joints, you *might* be ok, but no promises!

if someone manages to find a pair of struts from a car in a scrap yard that fits let us know as theres loads on fleebay for many cars but doesent state the length and pressure ect. i have made my brackets allready and hopefully having a pair of pug 306 bonnet struts to try next week so i will let you know if they will fit.

Got mine fitted. Looking pretty good. Would go for 30mm rod ends if I did it again to get a little extra height on the bonnet lift. But other than that they are spot on. Not alot of clearance between the bracket and the bonnet but enough not to rub. Points to pabs for the excelent work. Can't post pics Yet as I haven't posted enough yet aparently.

Good to see some other folks are attempting this now too :)
Mine still working all hunky-dory - loads of people comment on them too, which is nice.

Whole reason for the thread was to show that it could be done, and how... so people could do it themselves too!

I still love these - don't even remember what it was like to use the bonnet stay! :)
