When I turn the ignition off something in the engine compartment continues to run for over 30 seconds. its a high pitched hum. I've had the car 2 weeks and not sure if it's always been like this. Is this normal?

Can’t open the file but as @Alex667 has said, it’s probably the oil pump to help cool the turbo down. If it is, then it’s normal.

My current - and previous - VW have both made a humming noise after switching the engine off.

Mine has a high frequency whine until the car is locked. I think it’s an electrical not mechanical generated noise and not a concern. Very noticeable though in the garage where the auto lights are on. Stops when the lights go out after locking. Perhaps it’s this?

Definitely not, I know some cars it’s the electric vnt actuator which is normal on some diesels
