I'm in two minds about changing my intercooler for a smaller one as I'm thinking its a bit big and laggy for my current setup.

What I want to know is...is there any way of working out the ideal size intercooler needed?

I know bigger is not better but don't want anything to small and not up to the job.

I'm not planning any more mods so it doesn't need to be capable of any silly power it just needs to be efficient and be capable of around 240-50bhp.

The other thing was....I think I remember reading it might be better to have a slightly smaller diameter pipework on the hot side? Is there any truth in this?

Cheers.

I was taught a while ago, that the basic rule with a 2inch thick intercooler is 25bhp Per row + two extra rows, for a fully exposed front facing intercooler.
I have no idea how true that is, but it would personally rely on it.

Big is good.
Try the Forge LCR one with a LCR sided intake manifold.

Not too sure about smaller pipe work on hot side.
AFAIK everyone is either running 56mm or 62mm

not always willie, too big and the ko3s suffers from lag as adam has said.. maybe on k04 bigger is better??

But if you run a KO3s with the AMK/BAM intake manifold and Forge FMIC you have less pipework so less lag.

Phillc has my old SMIC's system with his KO3s and LCR intake manifold and he has no issues with lag.
So a FMIC could only help this further by reducing the amount of pipwork.

A KO3s remapped will flow the same as a KO4, if not more

try a smaller cooler adam, same inlet and outlet size as your pipework, see how that feels, if no different then flog it on mate??

tbh, i have zero lag on mine, feels the same as smic but with a stronger top end and 20degree less inlet temps

I could do but I'm tight :cartman:

I was looking at this one but I'm not sure its big enough to be efficent? definatly looks small enough to reduce lag.

I think it might just be me expecting a bit much of the ko3s, I should have gone to the AMD meet and seen what other peoples were like

Willie prob has the best idea about changing manifold but I can't afford that to be honest.

I doubt you would be more than £50 for one

Yeah but then I'd have both sets of pipework on the same side so I'd need a whole new pipe run like the LCR.

I might just try the smaller cooler and see which is best.....or try get a ride in another one.

Ahh thats where I read it! think it was 2.25 hot side and 2.5 cold.......don't see anyone else doing it so I was wondering what the benefits were?
