Hello everyone , i have purchased a 2005 cupra R 225 today , car pulls like a train its got a scorpion sports exhaust fitted , aftermarket air filter ( im not a fan of these but it was on already ) sounds great and pulls very very well but it does have a couple of problems. One is the 16804 code i got after reading about it im pretty sure its an exhaust leak cause it does sound like it and the revs are a tiny bit unstable on idle but it really is hardly noticeable so i will check for leaks etc , second problem is i get this strange sound from the suspension when im on a hill and turn the steering wheel it sounds like something twisted under pressure i will check the suspension tomorrow if weather allows but thought id ask here so i know what to look for more specifically as it may be a common problem ? And last but not least the brakes dont really feel that strong , the pads are all good its got brembos 4 pot on the front so i would assume the car would have a lot of braking power but around town its really week , im thinking maybe air in the system but would like to see other suggestions, the brake pedal doesnt sink to the floor or anything but it does feel kinda like hard to press at first. Other then that car seems to be solid to be honest and the power really surprised me im pretty sure its been remaped cause i know what 220ish bhp feels like (fiat coupe 20vt ) and this feels stronger i mean on the motorway doing 60mph in 6th gear i press the pedal halfway not even and within like 3 seconds im doing 80mph , is there any way i can find out whether its been remaped without actually having the ecu checked? It does have a boost gauge , on idle the vac is at 22 , on boost i didnt really check yet. Cheers for your time and help in advance. Will upload some pictures as soon as i have time to give the car a good wash etc.

Hey dude congrats on the purchase!

Welcome to the cupra club!;)

I had a few teething problems with my car when I first got it!

I’m not sure about the problems you have but if you check the boost then that should give you a good indication of if it mapped

I’m not sure what the standard psi is I think it’s around 12-13

I had a lean code that came up after I bought the car, exhaust rattle bad paintwork in places but now I’ve modded it a little bit and I absolutely love it! Best car I’ve had

But I quite enjoyed giving it some TLC that it hasn’t received in a very long time hahaah

Car does look great , i love them in red aswell but i've always had bad experience owning a red car so i just gave up on the red :D And exactly i enjoy making a car better aswell i guess its the magic of buying a used car , you buy it then make it better give her some love and you then know you can trust the car , i've got an a4 b5 turbo quattro sport for 6 years in cactus green and somany people tell me why dont i sell it already but i never will the car is sentimental to me some of the most precious moments have been made in that car ( taking my first born son from the hospital , meeting my wife in it for the first time etc etc )

Possibly driveshaft with the noise whilst turning??? Or worn top mounts and bearings?? If they haven't been replaced.

Also I really need to see if mine has been mapped lol haven't got a boost gauge either. Has all the mods for stage 2 and reciepts for them but no reciept for a remap.

Is there any way to check.

Yeah I get that mate! End of the days it’s your car you can do what you want with it haaha

And last red car I had got smashed into

That's exactly the reason why i gave up on red cars :D Had a red rx8 smashed into and a red alfa romeo got vandalised so i thought it must be the colour :D

I'll go out to check the suspension in a moment so hopefully i wont find a nasty surprise there , i think a tuning company should be able to find out as soon as they plug it in to see what files are on the ecu compare it with the stock files and bingo but not sure if there is any way we can find out on our own. I tried checking the boost gauge today but to be honest as soon as push the car i can't focus on the gauge cause in like 2 seconds i have to be braking cause of a car infront of me, need to find a nice long empty stretch of road :D

I lost two cars within 20mins after putting £20 in the tank...one, rear beam went through the petrol tank (mg metro red, b&Q carpark) and two, was set fire to while I was asleep (MK4 escort red) took me years to put £20 in a car...always £21 or £19 lol...have the same thing about red cars...won't own one again.

Your error code:

"Cat efficency below threshold is usually an exhaust leak by the post O2 sensor, and it's usually at the clamp that connects the down pipe to the rest of the exhaust. If there is even a small leak, then under deacceleration there is a pressure gradient that is created. And, then the air outside is then "sucked" back in to the exhaust system for a split second."

Andrew that story had me laughin :D
Alexis27 thanks mate i did have a look at the exhaust and could not see or feel any leak but it must be somewhere on the exhaust system.

I realised yesterday my brake lights were not working had the implausible brake switch code so checked fuse and bulbs both fine so bought the brake light switch replaced it in 15 minutes and problem solved, these are common faults by the look of it in my case it was the pin was stuck closed so when i press the brake pedal the pin would not slide out.
