Newbie finding error codes

Ok this is total noob question but i need to ask it

How do you know if there is a fault with your leon, i don't see any engine management light anywhere, reading the owners handbook nothing about problem solving

i've heard of vag com is it software?, where you plug a laptop into the cars diganostic port, does the car not show error faults on the dash, i had a vauxhall before and for the slightest problem you would get an engine mangment light for sensors and major problems or are alot of the problems on the seat only show up when you plug it in to a reader

i know there are the usual symbols for emissions and so on, but im still a bit unsure

VAG-COM (or VCDS) is a diagnostic programme from Ross-Tech. Google it and you'll find lots about it. You get a cable that you hook up to the OBD2 port which is under the ash-tray at the back.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend that you mess with it without following instructions, you CAN do more harm than good. There's a VAG-COM forum on here by the way, take a look

Hi all,

I recently got a fault with the DPF on my 06 altea fr170, i've tried the forced regeneration with the VCDS software to no avail, i'm getting the same code, can anybody put a finger on the part i need to get replaced?
