I've just noticed my dashboard doesn't have a temperature gauge :( How will I know the engine is ready for a thrashing?

Am I missing something here?

i was confused about this, i guess we will just have to wait untill the pistons come through the bonnet, if this happens i think its safe to say you were pushing it a little bit hard =]

Use the heater if you need to. That's the only thing I can think of, it should blow cold when u start the engine, when it heats up, go.

About time u got urs stu38. The temp gauge is off putting, but I tend to keep an eye on the mpg and fuel gauge. It goes down rather quick. I'm sure the car will warn u if there's a problem. In fact, the manual says:

'The warning lamp lights up if the coolant temperature is too high or if the coolant level is too low.

There is a fault if:
-The wearning light symbol does not go out again after a few seconds.
-The warning lamp lights up or flashes while the vehicle is moving, while three acoustic warning signals - ! are emitted.'

It is something you can't monitor, but the warning light is above the engine warning light at the bottom of the rev counter.

Hope this helps.

im now thinking of that, someone had spun off om the motorway yesterday and spred stones allover the place, and some ass desided to change lane to have a closer look pulled infront of me and i got a stone in the windscreen, nice big chip(cars not even 3 weeks old and needing to call autoglass), as far as i can see i have no chips in the paintwork, but after shouting at the :censored: i thought about that protection stuff just incase it happens. does it work? and if you dont mind me askin how much is it?

I'm thinking about venture shield too. Paying £370 for paint and not protecting it is criminal. Piece of mind too. When I get chance I'll investigate, find somewhere that can do it. Need to clean the car first.

Back to topic, I usually check my fluid levels, tyre pressures, lights etc... at least once a month or when I'm going on a good long journey, so coolant being low will be the result of an instant loss of coolant. Look after your car and check it regular, it pays, you might spot a problem early. The car should give you good warning if there is an issue anyway, I'm sure VAG would design it that way.

Thats a good way to do it I think. The climate suddenly finds its legs and blasts out warm air.

I'm finding the digital display a little confusing - I haven't quite figured out the two push buttons on the dash yet

I noticed this morning that you get a digital display of your speed in km/h which is cool.

The two buttons on the dash are to set the clock and re set the odometer.

The digital display for the on board computer can be controlled by the buttons on the end of the right stalk.

theres also a button underneath the right hand stalk that switches between trip 1(distance, time, mpg) and trip 2(distance time mpg) in case anyone else hasn't noticed it yet.
(maybe it's just me, but it took me about 3 weeks to discover it, don't remember reading it in the manual)

press to switch between them (there's a little 1 or 2 to the top right of the value on the display to tell you which one your using) press and hold it to reset the value.
